  • Publication number: 20030224009
Abstract: An inducible expression system is provided that includes an inducible ansB promoter co-dependently regulatable by cyclic AMP and anaerobiosis. The expression system is particularly suited to chromosomal expression of immunogenic proteins in attenuated bacterial vaccines. Protein expression from an E. coli-derived ansB promoter is particularly effective in a Salmonella host bacterium.

  • Publication number: 20030219454
Abstract: Haemagglutinin polypeptides and encoding nucleic acids are isolated from eleven strains of Haemophilus paragallinarum. The haemagglutinin polypeptides are useful in vaccines for immunization against infectious coryza in chickens, as are the encoding nucleic acids when expressed in attenuated bacteria. Also provided are methods of use of the haemagglutinin polypeptides and nucleic acids for detection and diagnosis of, and immunization against, infectious coryza in chickens.

  • Patent number: 6607729
Abstract: The invention provides a novel surface polypeptide from Neisseria meningitidis as well as nucleic acid and nucleic acid sequence homologues encoding this protein. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the polypeptide and nucleic acids of the invention are also disclosed as well as methods useful in the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of N. meningitidis infection.

  • Publication number: 20030082036
Abstract: An adjustable system and an associated method for handling cargo in a cargo carrier are provided. The system includes a plurality of strips of low friction material for supporting the cargo during unloading or loading and during transit. Each strip has a relatively lower coefficient of friction than a floor of the cargo carrier and can be adjusted between an operative position and a non-operative position. In the operative position, the strips extend from the floor of the cargo carrier so that the cargo can be slid upon and supported by the strips. In the non-operative position, the strips are adjusted relative to the floor so that cargo in the carrier is at least partially supported by the floor.

  • Publication number: 20020160016
Abstract: Novel proteins that constitute modified forms of a Neisseria meningitidis surface antigen and encoding nucleic acids are provided. The modified surface proteins are characterized by having deletions of non-conserved amino acids, and thereby being capable of eliciting cross-protective immune responses against Neisseria meningitidis. The invention extends to the use of the modified surface antigens in diagnostics, in therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines and in the design and/or screening of medicaments. The modified surface antigens are particularly useful in vaccines which effectively immunize against a broader spectrum of N. meningitidis strains than would be expected from a corresponding wild-type surface antigen.

  • Patent number: 6258143
Abstract: The capacity and efficiency of a filter element having pleated filter media is increased by utilizing a baffle across the upstream front area of the filter media. The baffle is preferably a web of material that is adhered to the peaks of the filter media. Preferably, the baffle is laterally offset and has a width which is in the range of 20-75% of the width of the filter media. Utilizing the baffle does not increase restriction to an unacceptable range.

  • Patent number: 6200465
Abstract: In order to facilitate removal of an air filter from a housing, the air filter has a flexible tab which provides a finger grip. In a preferred embodiment, the flexible tab is disposed between a molded gasket and an expanded metal screen which covers the downstream area or dirty side of a pleated filter media.

  • Patent number: 4005696
Abstract: A compound bow having a center portion with a handle formed thereon, a a lower limb and an upper limb connected to the center portion and eccentrically mounted bow string pulleys mounted at the outer ends of each of the limbs for supporting a bow string. Bow string holders are supported by each of the eccentrically mounted pulleys with each of the bow string holders having a shaft that is connected at its outer end through a cable to one of the pulleys. At least a pair of bow string support members extend from either side of the shaft with the bow string support members being positioned at the inner end of the shaft. Each of the support members includes an upwardly extending outer end which is shaped and positioned to maintain a bow string between the outer end and the shaft.
