  • Patent number: 9765482
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process of manufacturing paper or paperboard which comprises providing (a) a mechanical pulp and (b) a wood free pulp, combining (a) the mechanical pulp and (b) the wood free pulp to form a mixed pulp comprising no more than 20% by total dry weight of fiber of the mechanical pulp, flowing the mixed pulp as a medium consistency stock and combining the medium consistency stock with dilution water to form a low consistency stock, draining the low consistency stock through a wire or mesh to form a sheet of paper which is dried, in which additional filler and a cationic polymer are added to the mechanical pulp.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6248207
Abstract: Cellulosic fines and cellulosic fibers are separated from a suspension containing the fines, the fibers and hydrophobic materials by screening the suspension to remove the fibers, and then subjecting the resultant filtrate to dispersed air flotation in the presence of calcium and generally a separation aid to form an upper Reject fraction in which the hydrophobic material is concentrated and a lower Accept fraction in which the cellulosic fines are concentrated.

  • Patent number: 5744043
Abstract: Stickies derived from pulping or deinking of cellulosic material are controlled by adding to the cellulosic liquor containing the stickies an emulsion in water of cross-linked, insoluble, ionisable and swellable polymer particles.

Inventors: Paul Kenneth Cutts, Anthony John Burke
  • Patent number: 5676796
Abstract: Paper is made by forming a thick stock cellulosic suspension, flocculating the thick stock by adding a relatively high molecular weight and relatively low cationic charge density polymer, diluting the flocculated thick stock to form a thin stock and then draining the thin stock to form a sheet. Usually coagulant is added to the thin stock before drainage and best results are achieved by adding coagulant followed by anionic colloidal material such as bentonite. The process can be operated to give good retention and good formation and, if the thick stock is dirty, to minimise pitch problems.
