Abstract: The combination of a magenta dye image-forming coupler, such as a phenylpyrazolone, with a substituted phenol in a photographic material provides an enhancement in the light stability of the resultant magenta image dye.The phenol has the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein each R is the same or different and is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, halogen, cyano, SO.sub.2 R.sup.1, SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, NHSO.sub.2 R.sup.1 or COOR.sup.1 group, in which R.sup.1 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl group and n is from 1 to 5.The phenol may totally or partially replace the conventional coupler solvent. The combination is useful in single colour or multi-colour photographic silver halide emulsion materials and processes.

Abstract: Improved hue, speed of dye formation and reduced staining are provided by a photographic element comprising a light-sensitive silver halide layer having associated therewith a 1-phenyl-3-anilino-pyrazolo-5-one coupler comprising a ballasted parent and a coupling-off group and containing substituents on the 1-phenyl and 3-anilino rings of the parent having Hammett sigma values which together sum to at least 1.1, the coupler further having at the 4-position of the pyrazolone ring a coupling-off group comprising a phenylthio group containing a carbonamido substituent in the position para to the sulfur on the phenylthio ring with the substituents on the phenylthio ring selected such that the calculated log P of the thiophenol corresponding to the coupling-off group is at least 4.

Abstract: This invention provides a color photographic element comprising, in an adjacent silver halide emulsion layer,(1) a development inhibitor releasing developer (IRD) which comprises a hydrazide, sulphonamidophenol, sulphonamidonaphthol, or hydroquinone moiety attached directly or via a linking group to a development inhibitor moiety which compound is oxidizable during silver halide development enabling release of the development inhibitor moiety under alkaline conditions,(2) a sulphonhydrazide color developing agent, and(3) a color coupler capable of forming image dye with the sulphonhydrazide during silver halide development.

Abstract: Photographic materials having incorporated sulphonyhdrazide color developing agents. Such photographic materials have at least two color-forming units, each of which has a silver halide emulsion layer and a photographic coupler. A ballasted heterocyclic sulphonhydrazide color developing agent is present in the material in droplets of a high boiling point solvent. A method of forming a photographic color image using such materials is also provided.
