  • Publication number: 20040087928
Abstract: A method of forming preformed absorbent cores wherein the absorbent cores have material properties which vary within the body of the core. The cores are formed by controlling the output of forming heads upon an air-laid non-woven apparatus. The forming heads or other particle distribution units distribute the fibers or particles upon the web such that alternating regions of material properties are created across the web. After each fiber disposition step, the web is optionally densified and the web is slit into several smaller web segments. The web is differentially densified and optionally differentially embossed such that the resulting web has a uniform thickness after being layered into a bundle. The uniform thickness of the web allows the finished non-woven web to be bundled for storage or transportation of the web without problems previously associated with layering webs having non-uniform material profiles.

  • Publication number: 20030195485
Abstract: Multilayered absorbent cores are provided that include synthetic fiber to improve the liquid transport properties of the resulting absorbent articles. The synthetic fiber, which may be found in either the innermost and/or intermediate layers of the absorbent core, particularly improve the rewet performance of the absorbent article. The absorbent cores may be incorporated into a number of absorbent articles, including diapers, feminine hygiene products and incontinence pads.

  • Publication number: 20030167046
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article defined by a pair of longitudinally extending side edges and a pair of end edges extending between the side edges, has a front waist region, a back waist region, and a crotch region located between the waist regions. The disposable absorbent article also includes a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. The topsheet is provided with a plurality of openings which direct bodily exudates received into or by the crotch region to a storage space disposed below the topsheet. The topsheet is spaced generally upward from the core such that the storage space is disposed between the topsheet and the core. The disposable absorbent article further includes at least one or more elongated elastic strands which are attached to the topsheet so as to space or urge the topsheet generally upwardly from the core.

  • Publication number: 20020151860
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article partially defined by a pair of longitudinally extending side edges and a pair of end edges extending between the side edges, includes a topsheet layer, a backsheet layer, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. The disposable absorbent article also has a pair of side wall structures each having a pair of oppositely positioned end portions. A first side wall structure extends generally longitudinally between the core and one of the side edges and the other side wall structure extends generally longitudinally between the core and the other side edge. Further, an end strip constructed from an elastic material is positioned substantially adjacent each one of the end edges, and extends laterally between the side edges.
