  • Patent number: 5584425
Abstract: A self contained gas powered endoscopic surgical apparatus is provided for placing lateral lines of surgical fasteners into body tissue. The apparatus includes an anvil member and a surgical fastener cartridge member mounted to the distal end of an elongated endoscopic portion. A tubular collar of the endoscopic portion moves distally to engage the anvil member and bias the anvil member and the cartridge member into cooperative alignment, thereby clamping body tissue to be fastened between the anvil member and the cartridge member. A self contained pneumatic system is disposed in the surgical apparatus and is actuable to eject and/or form the surgical fasteners in the clamped body tissue. The apparatus further comprises a locking mechanism for preventing approximation of the anvil member and the cartridge. In one embodiment a clamping interlock is shown which prevents approximation of the jaws when the jaws are either misaligned or improperly inserted into the instrument.

  • Patent number: 4790120
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the delivery of replacement units, particularly suited for the delivery of replacement electronic components such as Programmable Read-Only Memories (PROM's) mounted on printed circuit boards. The apparatus includes a box-like housing divided into upper and lower regions by a partition. U-shaped track guides containing flexible linkages are fixed to the inner walls of the housing and extend between the upper and lower regions. Each region is accessible through a door which when closed may only be opened by from inside the housing. To deliver a replacement unit the replacement unit is inserted into the track guides in the lower region and the lower door is closed. The housing is then wrapped, with the upper door open, with shrinkable plastic, or other suitable material. A customer's address and any necessary mailing permits are fixed to the wrapping and the whole is mailed to the customer.

  • Patent number: 4159748
Abstract: An improved weighing scale has spring hangers comprising flexure pivots. When the load to be weighed is applied to the coil spring of the scale, the spring tends to uncoil. The flexure pivot spring hangers allow the coil spring to unwind, thus providing the load support to obtain a linear deflection characteristic throughout the weighing range. The flexure pivot spring hangers can comprise either a flexible thin strip member or a flexible wire. The thin strip may be necked about its mid-portion to provide additional flexibility.

  • Patent number: 4121677
Abstract: A clamping or calibrator device for a coil spring of a weighing scale is described. The clamping device features a block and a pair of shims that sandwich a coil of the spring in a fixed location in the block. A first shim of the pair is contiguously disposed to an inner arcuate surface of the coil. A second shim of the pair is contiguously disposed to an outer arcuate surface of the coil. Each shim conforms to the respective arcuate surfaces of the coil. Each shim comprises a pair of lips that prevent transverse movement of the shims with respect to the block. This prevented movement insures that the coil will be properly located and fixed in position with respect to the block.
