    Abstract: A hydrophobic and particulate soil removal composition is provided. The composition can be used for removing organic hydrophobic soils, such as oily or greasy soils, from a laundry item and/or from a hard surface such as an engine part and/or from skin. The composition can be used in a liquid or solid form and can be applied to individual laundry items in the form of a solid stick or liquid spray prior to introduction to the laundry machine. Laundry items can also be contacted in the laundry machine with the pre-spot or pre-treatment composition in the form of an aqueous presoak, preflush, prewash, or other step prior to the cleaning step. The treatment composition can be used as a recirculating liquid stream or bath for the cleaning of hard surfaces. The composition includes an ethoxylate component and a fatty acid ester component.

    Abstract: The invention relates to microemulsion compositions containing water, a mixture of nonionic surfactants, and oil. The microemulsion provides for the removal of hydrophobic particularly oily soils from a variety of substrates. The compositions can be used for hard surface, laundry cleaning, hand washing, and car washing. Typical hydrophobic soils are oily based soils derived from petroleum oils or natural fats and oils also containing a significant proportion of particulate soils such as carbon, common dirt and other non-water soluble typically hydrophobic soil particulate. The microemulsion composition can include a splitting agent such as an amphoteric surfactant for controlling the conditions under which the microemulsion will split.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus provide for an automated fragrance dispenser for the application of a fragrance to dry fabrics during an industrial laundering process. In one embodiment, the fragrance dispenser is positioned outside the dryer, and preferably on the exit side of the steam tunnel in the laundering process. The fragrance dispenser includes a sensor for determining whether the garment passing on the conveyor is the type of garment to which the fragrance is to be applied, for example, a uniform shirt versus pants. The fragrance dispenser also includes a delivery system for applying the fragrance to selected garments. The delivery system also includes a timing device for dispensing the fragrance onto the garment for a controlled amount of time.

    Abstract: A tunable photonic band-gap device is disclosed which utilizes photoresponsive materials and is tunable over a range of wavelengths with the application of light. The device comprises a structure having a plurality of photoresponsive regions arranged in a matrix whereby the behavior of the device in preventing electromagnetic radiation from propagating through the structure may be modified by applying light to the photoresponsive regions. In one embodiment, a photonic band-gap transistor has a light propagation path defined by a plurality of dielectric and photoresponsive rods disposed in a substrate for the routing of a signal through the structure from an inlet to an outlet. The path comprises an input signal path beginning at the inlet, an output signal path terminating at the outlet, and a control signal path which merges with the input signal path to be joined with the output signal path at a common intersection point.

    Abstract: A high speed and low power digital circuit for producing an output responsive to a plurality of input data signals, such as a multiplexer or a latch includes one or more data switching elements. Each of the switching elements is a differential transistor pair having one transistor driven by a control signal and the other transistor driven by a data signal. The signal levels for the data and control signals are interleaved so that each control signal turns on and off the effect of the data signal on the current flow in the switching element. The circuit structure avoids emitter coupling more than two transistors at any point in order to reduce the capacitance at critical nodes and consequently increase switching speed. By providing two switching elements with data transistors connected to a common pull-down resistor, two data signals, and a complementary pair of control signals, a multiplexing function can be performed.
