  • Publication number: 20020107748
Abstract: A method and system are described for decentralized order matching among multiple different, individual marketplaces. An order is first received within one of the individual marketplaces, an originating marketplace. Information about the order is then transmitted to other individual marketplaces. Each of the individual marketplaces which received the information about the order, the receiving marketplaces, then determines whether that individual marketplace can match the order with at least one matching order posted in the receiving marketplace's order book. In response to a determination that one of the receiving marketplaces can match the received order, the received order is cleared from the originating marketplace and the matching order is cleared from the receiving marketplace's order book.

  • Publication number: 20020103741
Abstract: A method and system are described for creating and maintaining a centralized order book. The centralized order book is used to clear orders. Multiple orders are aggregated from a plurality of different individual marketplaces by posting the orders in the centralized order book. The centralized order book then attempts to clear at least one of the orders utilizing other ones of the orders posted in the centralized order book. The central order book and individual marketplaces are maintained within computer systems which are coupled together utilizing a network.

  • Publication number: 20020099602
Abstract: A system and method for providing web site update schedules to consumers. A consumer requests the web sites for which they would like to receive update schedules and the invention provides the update schedules to the consumer along with advertisements, promotions and recommendations for other web sites to visit. In one embodiment, these advertisements and recommendations are targeted to the consumers based on their interests. The update schedules for the various web sites can be obtained through several means. In one embodiment, the update schedules may be obtained by itself by crawling the web sites periodically or by receiving the update schedules directly from web sites that register with the system.

  • Publication number: 20020091612
Abstract: A method, system, and business method are disclosed for providing a marketplace for computing capacity in a network. An indication of needed computing capacity, including a bid amount, and an indication of available excess computing capacity, including an ask amount, are received in the computing capacity marketplace server for a plurality of computers in the network. The method creates a computing capacity marketplace by matching the bid amount with the ask amount, thereby enabling one computer to provide at least a portion of its available computing capacity to another computer in response to the matching step.

  • Publication number: 20020069885
Abstract: An apparatus, system, method and computer program product for monitoring and controlling bio-enhancement implants is provided. With the apparatus, system, method and computer program product, a user may control the operation of implantable devices within the user's body by operation of a personal digital device. The personal digital device may obtain operational settings of the various implantable devices based on information stored within the personal digital device and/or information obtained from a network. The settings of the various implants are established in view of the possible interactions of the implants with one another. The personal digital device further monitors the operation of the implantable devices and the user's biological indicia. Based on the monitoring, the operation of the implantable devices are modified to obtain a desired result.

  • Patent number: 6400690
Abstract: A system produces of an empirical map of wireless communication coverage through a process of combining information from individual clients to produce a map which is then shared by all of the clients. The wireless coverage map aids in maintaining a reliable communications link. The empirical map is generated by combining information from a group of mobile wireless users. The group may consist of a fleet of trucks, taxicabs, government service vehicles, or the customers of a wireless service provider. The mobile vehicles must be equipped with a GPS device or be located by other means such as triangulation. While vehicles are moving, the quality of wireless communication, e.g., signal strength or communication continuity, is recorded for each vehicle as a function of positions. The data from all of the vehicles is combined to produce the empirical map. The empirical map may be maintained at a central site and subsets of the map replicated for individual vehicles.

  • Patent number: 6349257
Abstract: A mobile navigation system implemented as an embedded system in a vehicle is easy to use, does not detract the driver's attention from the road, and limits the number of choices presented to the user of the navigation system according to a predetermined set of preferences or personalized information. Choices are filtered according to a set of driver preferences, according to the vehicle's geographic position, direction of motion, and the driver's intended itinerary. The itinerary, including intermediate stops, is calculated on an external computing system. The information is downloaded from the computing system to a memory device such as, for example, a smart card. The information is then transferred from the smart card to the embedded vehicle navigation system.

  • Patent number: 6333703
Abstract: A system of mobile units are installed in multiple vehicles in traffic, the vehicles with mobile units being a sample of all vehicles in traffic. These mobile units include both wireless communications devices and apparatus that determines the location of each vehicle. Monitoring a vehicle's position as a function of time also reveals the velocity of the vehicle. Position and speed information is periodically broadcast by the vehicles to a central monitoring station and to neighboring vehicles. At the central monitoring station, the collective input from the sample set of vehicles is processed using statistical analysis methods to provide an instant chart of traffic conditions in the area, the accuracy of said chart being within a range determined by the size of the sample. Warnings of delays or updates on traffic conditions on the road ahead are then automatically returned to subscribers of the information or are used as part of an Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS).

  • Patent number: 5563583
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) multibit tag structure useful for identifying objects of interest is described. An array of thin cantilevers of slightly different lengths produced by differential etching are coated with a soft magnetic material which upon interrogation with an RF magnetic field vibrate at their resonant frequencies in the presence of an appropriate bias or direct current (DC) field. The oscillating magnetic fields generated by the vibrating bars and the stationary DC field can be readily detected by a receiver and processed to determine the code of the tag and thus provide information related to the object.
