  • Patent number: 6988525
Abstract: The Invention is a window blind with an integral, adjustable light shelf to control the entry of light into a room through a window. The blind may be a roller blind or any other suitable blind and controls entry of light through a lower portion of the window. The light shelf controls entry of light through an upper portion of the window and may be adjusted to reflect incident sunlight onto the ceiling of the room to provide indirect lighting to the room. The light shelf may be adjusted to substantially or partially exclude light from the room.

  • Publication number: 20050166525
Abstract: A combination crash rail and railing system provides walking-aid support along a wall and protects the wall from impact damage. The system includes a distinct handrail and crash rail components, and one or more wall-mounting brackets. The handrail and crash rail components are independently mounted along the wall on common wall-mounting brackets that are secured to the wall. The wall-mounting brackets have a universal design that allows flexibility in the choice of the types of handrail and crash rail components that can be installed. In one universal design, a wall-mounting bracket includes a base plate, which can be secured to a wall surface, and separate handrail- and crash rail-mounting flanges that are disposed at the ends of a pair of arms that extend from the base plate.

  • Publication number: 20050066600
Abstract: A compression seal for concrete expansion joints is extruded as a one-piece unit from rubber-like material. The compression seal includes a compressible sealing portion and a pair of load-bearing wings that extend laterally from the compressible sealing portion. The one-piece design facilitates easy installation of the compression seal in an expansion joint. In use, the compressible sealing portion is inserted the expansion joint. Simple zipper-like motion may be used to press fit the compressible portion into the expansion joint. The lateral load-bearing wings are bonded to concrete surfaces adjoining the expansion joint to hold the compressible sealing portion in place.

  • Patent number: 5427359
Abstract: An ergonomic handrail/bumper has an elongated metal retainer of substantially uniform cross-section along its length that is adapted to be mounted on a wall by supports. A bumper-retaining portion of the retainer includes a generally vertically oriented web, to which a handgrip-retaining portion spaced apart above the web is joined by a connecting portion. A bumper member is mounted on the front of the web of the bumper-retaining portion, and a handgrip member is mounted on the handgrip-retaining portion of the retainer. The handgrip-retaining portion has a base joined to the connecting portion, the base being inclined upwardly and rearwardly with respect to the front part of the bumper-retaining portion, and a pair of spaced apart retaining flanges extending generally upwardly from the base and defining a channel.

  • Patent number: 5078529
Abstract: A seismic expansion joint cover comprises a pair of elongated frame members, each of which is adapted to be secured to a building member, one on one side of an expansion gap and the other on the other side of the expansion gap, and each of which has a planar support surface and an edge adapted to overhang the gap. An elongated cover member spans the expansion gap and is supported on the support surfaces of the respective frame members for sliding movement of the frame members relative to the cover member. A hold-down assembly resiliently holds the cover member in engagement with the support surfaces of the frame members.

  • Patent number: 5048249
Abstract: A gasket for a flush expansion joint cover comprises a longitudinally continuous central body portion and two longitudinally continuous side portions, one at either transverse edge of the central body portion. The central body portions and the side portions are comprised of a colorable thermoplastic rubber and are co-extruded to form an integral gasket structure. The side portions, which are adapted to keylock with mating grooves in structural members of the expansion joint cover, are harder than the central body portion to enhance retention of the gasket in place during use. The central body portion has a cellular core structure and a slightly concave upper surface to remain substantially smooth and flush with adjacent surfaces throughout the complete movement cycle of the expansion joint.
