  • Publication number: 20230095748
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a cast aluminum component prepared using an aluminum alloy composition. The aluminum alloy composition includes greater than or equal to about 3 wt. % to less than or equal to about 9 wt. % of silicon, greater than or equal to about 0.2 wt. % to less than or equal to about 0.6 wt. % of magnesium, greater than or equal to about 0.15 wt. % to less than or equal to about 0.8 wt. % of iron, greater than or equal to about 0.15 wt. % to less than or equal to about 0.6 wt. % of a combined concentration of chromium and manganese, greater than or equal to about 0.05 wt. % to less than or equal to about 0.2 wt. % of a combined concentration of vanadium and titanium, and a balance of aluminum. Greater than or equal to about 40 wt. % of the aluminum alloy composition is derived from post-consumer aluminum scrap.

  • Patent number: 8666706
Abstract: A method to predict a distribution of material properties of a cast component. In one form, the method includes accepting at least one of dendrite arm spacing data and porosity data that have been previously determined, as well as accepting casting geometry data and structural analysis geometric data, calculating material properties of the casting based on one or both of dendrite arm spacing data and porosity data at each of the various nodes within the casting FEA or FD mesh and mapping the calculated material properties to the various nodes of the finished part FEA mesh. The method may be used as a basis for conducting fatigue or a related durability analysis on the component.

  • Patent number: 8417365
Abstract: A system includes an encoding module and a decoding module. The encoding module generates a three-dimensional (3D) model of a part, modifies the 3D model to include a 3D structure, and generates a computer-aided design (CAD) file based on the modified 3D model. The decoding module determines whether the CAD file includes the 3D structure, authorizes operation of analysis software on the CAD file when the CAD file includes the 3D structure, and prohibits operation of the analysis software when the CAD file does not include the 3D structure.

  • Patent number: 5398750
Abstract: The machine includes a train of molds moving through an arcuate pouring zone, a supply vessel for the metal, a trough extending between the vessel and the mold trains to convey the metal therebetween. The metal is discharged from beneath the surface of the metal in the vessel and into one end of the trough beneath the surface of the metal therein. The other end of the trough is registered with a mold in the trains and moves with the trains while metal is dispensed into the mold from beneath the surface of the metal in the trough. Valves control the discharging and dispensing of the metal to and from the trough. A motor moves the trough, as needed, in the pouring cycle, and a coupler coordinates the movement of the trough and the mold to keep them registered in the pouring zone.
