Patent number: 5588987Abstract: A discharge stream conditioner and method for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of devices which discharge pressurized liquids is disclosed. An elongated rod having a plurality of outwardly radiating, spiraling, fingers or spokes is placed within the discharge conduit or flow path of a pressurized liquid to be discharged. The purpose of the discharge stream conditioner and method is to effectuate a partial separation of the propellant gas which has dissolved into the liquid agent to be discharged thereby providing for a more even flow and more efficient discharge of the liquid agent from its pressurized container.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1994Date of Patent: December 31, 1996Inventor: Paul O. Patent number: 4304383Abstract: A bracket unit for holding devices having tanks of various diameters such as fire extinguishers. In one embodiment, a pair of straps and a shim are detachably affixed to the body of the bracket by tabs so that the entire unit is initially of one piece construction. After being detached from the body, one end of each of the straps is engaged within one of a plurality of apertures defined at either side of the body. The bracket unit is adaptable to cylinders of various diameter by engaging the straps within appropriate apertures in the body. A clamp, having two prongs, at the upper portion of the body engages the neck portion of the fire extinguisher and stops at the ends of each prong limits possible rotation of the fire extinguisher so that the gauge is kept facing away from the bracket. A support at a lower portion of the body accommodates a portion of the cylinder. A shim may be removably attached to the support to accommodate smaller diameter cylinders.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1979Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Inventor: Paul O. Huston

Patent number: 4279161Abstract: A pressure gauge is disclosed which is generally suitable for use in connection with a fire extinguisher. The pressure responsive element is rotatably secured in position in the casing by an adjustable sleeve. The zero reference dial mark is provided on the casing, while remaining dial indicia may be on the viewing crystal. Both "off-pressure" and "on-pressure" alignment of the pointer and dial markings are enabled prior to sealing of the crystal to the casing. The seal between the crystal and the casing is ultrasonically formed and contains a weakened segment to enable release of excessive pressure within the casing.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1979Date of Patent: July 21, 1981Inventors: Paul O. Huston, Alfred Munn

Patent number: 4181511Abstract: A bacteria filter for use in anesthesiology and respiratory care systems to filter fluid flow at a desired point in a system. The filter includes an enlarged non-conductive, transparent tubular housing having a passageway therethrough and tapering at one end to a reduced tip. A conductive connector is mounted to the reduced tip and a conductive end cap is affixed to the end of the housing distal from the reduced tip. The end cap has an opening therethrough terminating in a projecting connector. A filter element is retained in the housing and a conductive portion extends between the end cap and the conductive connector to provide a conductive pathway from end to end of the filter. The connector and the projecting end cap are adapted to be mounted within a fluid flow system to permit fluid communication with the interior of the housing so that fluid flow through the system passes in one end of the housing, through the filter element and out the other end of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1978Date of Patent: January 1, 1980Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Edward A. Kippel, Paul O. Huston

Patent number: 3977410Abstract: A disposable forceps of a single piece of molded, resilient material is provided for surgical use. The forceps include a pair of arms substantially parallel to each other, integrally joined together at one end, and with the arms biased to an open position. At the other end of the arms are jaw members having teeth which precisely match and align together when the arms are urged to a closed position. Intermediate the ends of each arm is an integral alignment and spacing means projecting from the inner wall which interface and engage each other to allow movement of the arms in only one planar direction laterally to the open and closed positions and to limit the distance between the arms when the arms are biased to an open position, thereby ensuring proper alignment and matching of the jaw teeth.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1975Date of Patent: August 31, 1976Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Paul O.
