  • Patent number: 10230575
Abstract: An approach is presented for client initiated provisioning. A provisioning manager determines a client-based trigger for requesting a provisioning of a client device to access a network. The provisioning manager processes and/or facilitates a processing of the client-based trigger to generate a provisioning request, and then causes, at least in part, transmission of the provisioning request to a provisioning server associated with the network. The provisioning manager receives provisioning information from the provisioning server for processing to gain access to the network.

  • Patent number: 9525996
Abstract: A terminal, network entity, system, method and computer program product enable communications to be established with an available system that is on a priority list and that has a desired service available. Communications may be established automatically with the system that is highest on the priority list and that has the desired service available. Alternatively, all of the systems that are on the priority list and that have the desired service available may be displayed to a user, such that the user may select one of the displayed systems and communications may be established with the selected system.

  • Patent number: 8065359
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method, a system, a network node and a computer program executable by a data processor or data processors to accommodate a non-IP OTA protocol using an end-to-end IP protocol. The method includes receiving a message from a non-IP entity; using a markup language, such as XML, for message and content representation, where in an XML message non-IP protocol content is identified using an XML ‘Meta’ element, where the Meta element describes the content type as ‘non-IP protocol name’ and sending the XML message. The step of using XML preferably includes encapsulating received content in an XML message and using the XML Meta element to enable a receiver of the XML message to extract the content. The message received from the non-IP entity may be an IS-683 message.

  • Patent number: 7983226
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating exchange of configuration indicia associated with a mobile node operable in a radio communication system. The mobile node is dynamically-configurable, and includes a logic tree. The indicia is provided to a network manager responsive to request therefore or upon initiation by the mobile node. When initiated at the network, a request message generator located at a network manager generates a get message to request that certain configuration indicia be provided to the network manager. The mobile node, upon delivery of the get message thereto, retrieves the requested information, at a selected level of detail, and returns the indicia to the network manager.

  • Patent number: 7937083
Abstract: A mobile station includes at least one radio frequency transceiver, a data processor and a memory coupled to the data processor. The memory stores information that includes an overlay function and overlay parameters for use by the data processor to perform system selection by invoking the overlay function to determine if the overlay parameters specify that a home system is to be acquired and, if so, to initiate a scan using the transceiver to attempt to acquire the home system using home system-related overlay parameters, else attempting to acquire a non-home system.

  • Publication number: 20080235386
Abstract: A method is performed on a first server for communicating with a mobile station in order for the mobile station to update a security-related parameter. The method includes determining that a request expressed in a first protocol has been made by a second server for updating the security-related parameter on the mobile station. In response to the determination, the request is packaged in a message expressed in a second protocol and is communicated to the mobile station. Another method is disclosed that is performed on a mobile station for updating a security-related parameter. The method includes receiving a message that is expressed in a first protocol from a server and that includes a request for the mobile station to update the security-related parameter. The request is expressed in a second protocol. In response to the message, at least one operation is performed in order to update the security-related parameter.

  • Publication number: 20060203722
Abstract: A system for managing performance of a terminal includes a service level manager capable of identifying one or more QoS management parameters based upon a service level agreement associated with a selected service. Because the QoS management parameters may differ from layer to layer in a multi-layer protocol stack, the service level manager is also capable of mapping the QoS management parameters to corresponding layer-specific QoS parameters for different protocol layers. Thereafter, the service level manager is capable of downloading, to the terminal, a service level specification (SLS) including the layer-specific QoS parameters. In this regard, the SLS is downloaded to the terminal during provisioning of the selected service, where the service provisioning is performed via an over-the-air (OTA) framework. Thereafter, the QoS experienced by the terminal in effectuating the selected service can then be managed based upon the SLS.
