    Abstract: A system and method for providing a context aware call purpose announcement is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a telephone call from a calling party to a called party on a digital telephony network. An operational state of the called party's telephone is identified. The calling party is enabled to create a custom message for the called party when the operational state of the called party's telephone is identified as busy. The custom message is delivered to the called party through the digital telephony network to enable the called party to determine whether to receive the telephone call from the calling party.
