Patent number: 10733409Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for configuring a fingerprint sensor to operate in a capacitive sensing mode and an ultrasonic sensing mode are disclosed. A fingerprint sensor may be configured to operate in a capacitive sensing mode by driving a sensing electrode using a controller. In some implementations, an object positioned on or near the sensing electrode may be detected using the fingerprint sensor in the capacitive sensing mode, and the controller can drive electrodes of the fingerprint sensor differently to configure the fingerprint sensor to operate in an ultrasonic sensing mode. In some implementations, an applications processor may be instructed to authenticate a fingerprint of the object from image data obtained when the fingerprint sensor is operating in the ultrasonic sensing mode. In some implementations, a display of a mobile device containing the fingerprint sensor may be unlocked, or the mobile device may be woken up when the fingerprint is authenticated.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2018Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Sandeep Louis D'Souza, Vadim Winebrand, Ashish Hinger, Paul Penchin Pan, Meir Agassy, Yizhaq Abudi, Micah Timothy Lawrence, Jong Soo Kim, Sherman Sebastian Antao, Bo-Ren Wang, Masoud Roham, Lennart Karl Mathe, Nathan Felix Altman, Suryaprakash Ganti, David William Burns

Patent number: 9818347Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for controlling the states of a light modulator used in displays. A display apparatus includes pixel circuits coupled to the light modulators. Each pixel circuit can include an output node, a data capacitor, a charge transistor for charging the output node and a discharge transistor for selectively conducting a current between the output node and an update interconnect providing an update voltage. The display apparatus can include a controller for testing the pixel circuits to determine two or more update voltage levels, each update voltage level causing the discharge transistor to conduct current. The controller also can be configured to determine a logical high voltage level to be stored in the data capacitor based on the plurality of update voltage levels.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2016Date of Patent: November 14, 2017Assignee: SnapTrack, Inc.Inventors: Eric Uriostigue, Alan Gerald Lewis, Mark Milenko Todorovich, Pramod Varma, Paul Penchin Pan

Publication number: 20160078842Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for a power supply module capable of providing power to a display apparatus. In one aspect, the power supply module can include a power supply controller that is capable executing commutation cycles, where each commutation cycle includes energizing an inductor for a first time period and then allowing the energized inductor to supply power to the display apparatus for a second time period. The power supply module can operate in active-high and active-low states, in which the power supply module executes commutation cycles, and a suspend state, in which no commutation cycles are executed. The power supply module transitions between these states based in part on the value of the output voltage. A peak current value is varied such that that the power supply module converges to operating in the active-high and active-low states after peak current demand is met.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2015Publication date: March 17, 2016Inventors: Didier Henri Farenc, Paul Penchin Pan

Publication number: 20160035314Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for providing displays. In one aspect, a display has an optical data path for transmitting data between a controller and an array of display elements. The controller couples to a transmitter for transmitting an optical signal and the display elements couple to a receiver that receives optical signals. The transmitter transmits an optical signal that carries control data for controlling the operation of the display element. The receiver receives the control data and provides the control data to a driver that uses the control data to control the operation of the display element. In some implementations, the control data is multiplexed with image data and communication data to provide an optical data path that carries image data and control data for forming an image and that carries communication data that can propagate through the display and to a remote location.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2014Publication date: February 4, 2016Inventor: Paul Penchin Pan

Publication number: 20150194083Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for a display device incorporating high-speed data links. A display device can include a controller and a plurality of driver integrated circuits (ICs) for driving portions of a display panel. The controller can communicate data and control signals with the plurality of driver ICs over a plurality of links. The controller can adjust power consumed for communication over one link independently of the power consumed for communication over other links. The controller can adjust power consumed by the controller and a driver IC, as well as transmitter and receiver parameters to provide an acceptable quality of data transmission over the corresponding link. The controller can adjust the power consumed by adjusting a voltage swing of one or more transmission amplifiers and/or controlling the current supplied to receiver amplifiers of the driver ICs.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2014Publication date: July 9, 2015Inventors: Pavel Sinha, Paul Penchin Pan, Alain Blaing Nadiguebe
