  • Publication number: 20130024225
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for selecting a forecastability strategy from among a group of forecastability strategies based on business outcomes. A group of predefined forecastability strategies is received along with historical supply chain management data. Each forecastability strategy represents a set of rules by which to determine whether each item of a plurality of items within a supply chain management system is to be managed using statistical forecasting. The historical supply chain management data represents past events in a supply chain associated with at least two items selected from the plurality of items within the supply chain management system. Each of the forecastability strategies is applied to the historical data in order to generate business outcomes for each of the forecastability strategies.

  • Publication number: 20070003444
Abstract: A microfluidic device is made up from at least four laminae, the laminae including two outer laminae and at least two further laminae disposed between the outer laminae and defining a microfluidic pathway. Inner surfaces of the outer laminae define the upper and lower surfaces of a fluid pathway, one of said further laminae defining at least a first fluidic element, and at least a second of said further laminae defining at least a second fluidic element, wherein the first and second fluidic elements are fluidically coupled.

  • Patent number: 7121267
Abstract: An integrated pressure management apparatus, system and method for minimizing resonance of a poppet. A housing defines a fluid communication passage between ports. The housing includes a first portion, which extends along an axis, and has a first surface parallel to the axis. A poppet is movable between a first configuration that prevents fluid communication between the ports, and a second configuration that permits fluid communication between the ports. The poppet includes a second portion. The second portion is translatable along the axis relative to the housing, and includes a tubular stem that has a second surface parallel to the axis. The second portion nests with the first portion so as to define a gap between the first and second surfaces. The first and second portions define a chamber, and the gap restricts fluid flow between the fluid communication passage and the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7117880
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for managing fuel vapor pressure in a fuel system that supplies fuel to an internal combustion engine. The fuel vapor pressure management apparatus performs leak detection on a headspace of the fuel system, performs excess negative pressure relief of the headspace, and performs excess positive pressure relief of the headspace. The apparatus includes a housing, a pressure operable device, and a printed circuit board. The housing defines an interior chamber. The pressure operable device separates the interior chamber into first and second portions. And the pressure operable device includes a poppet that moves along an axis and a seal that is adapted to cooperatively engage the poppet. The printed circuit board is supported by the housing in the interior chamber. And the printed circuit board includes a sensor that is adapted to be actuated by movement of the poppet along the axis.

  • Patent number: 7028722
Abstract: A method of rationalizing the functioning of a fuel vapor pressure management system. The fuel vapor pressure management system is in fluid communication with a headspace of a fuel system, and the fuel system supplies fuel to an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The method includes providing a fuel vapor pressure management apparatus detecting an absence of leaks with respect to the headspace, counting a number of leak detection tests performed by the fuel vapor pressure management apparatus, counting a number of occurrences of the fuel vapor pressure management apparatus detecting an absence of a leak, and evaluating the number of occurrences within a selected number of tests.

  • Publication number: 20060076063
Abstract: A fuel vapor pressure management apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a housing, a pressure operable device, and a printed circuit board. The pressure operable device moves between first and second configurations with respect to the housing. The printed circuit board is supported by the housing and includes a delay and a sensor. The delay commences upon internal combustion engine shutdown and concludes after a preset period. And the sensor indicates movement of the pressure operable device in the first configuration after the conclusion of the preset period.

  • Publication number: 20060011174
Abstract: A purge valve is provided for a vehicle. The purge valve 10 includes a body 12 to be coupled to an intake manifold 40 of the vehicle and to a canister 33. The body has an orifice 20 for communicating vapor from the canister 33 with airflow in the intake manifold 40. A valve 18 is movable between a first position closing the orifice 20 and a second position opening the orifice. A shape memory alloy (SMA) structure 31 is associated with the valve such that when electric current is provided to the SMA structure 31 to heat the SMA structure above a transformation temperature thereof, the SMA structure transforms from an original shape to a second shape, thereby causing the valve 18 to move from the first position to the second position, and when the current is removed from the SMA structure, the SMA structure returns to the original shape, thereby permitting the valve 18 to return to the first position.

  • Patent number: 6986357
Abstract: A method of designing a fuel vapor pressure management apparatus that performs leak detection on a headspace of a fuel system. A pressure operable device separates the housing into first and second portions, and includes a seal and a poppet that cooperatively engages the seal with a contact force. The seal includes a first effective area that is equal to a difference between a first area defined by a major perimeter and a second area defined by a minor perimeter. The poppet moves along an axis and includes a second effective area that is defined by the minor perimeter of the seal. A first pressure level, at which excess negative pressure is relieved, is calculated by dividing the contact force by the first effective area. And a second pressure level, at which excess positive pressure is relieved, is calculated by dividing the activation force by the second effective area.
