  • Patent number: 4499155
Abstract: Articles are made of coiled metal sheet which has been thermal mechanically worked so it has a particular texture or crystallographic orientation dominant along its length. The sheet is wound around a mandrel to form a coil and the coil is then hot isostatically bonded to make a monolithic circular article. The article has a circumferential crystallographic orientation which corresponds with that which dominates the length of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4343750
Abstract: A method is set forth wherein powder is produced by melting metal in a melting furnace where it is then poured into a tundish which directs the molten metal onto a spinning disc means. The tundish is located at the center of a nozzle plate which contains a plurality of annular nozzle means for directing a coolant flow downwardly around the spinning disc means at different radial positions. Controls are provided for controlling atmosphere in said apparatus. Further, controls are provided to control the speed of the disc means and the mass flow of the cooling fluid through each of the nozzle means.

  • Patent number: 4226644
Abstract: A series of superalloy compositions are described, which when processed according to a described processing sequence, produce homogeneous superalloy articles which contain an exceptionally high amount of the gamma prime phase. These alloys contain large amounts of aluminum and chromium and hence are quite oxidation resistant. The processing sequence includes rapid solidification to suppress the formation of the low melting eutectic phases which would otherwise occur.
