Patent number: 11198283Abstract: A laminating machine includes UV curing elements within the process chamber to cure a UV curable adhesive in a laminating stack while being heated in an autoclave. In an automated process, the laminating machine applies pressure to the stack for pressure sensitive adhesion, then autoclave heating and simultaneous UV curing. The UV curing elements are disposed in the body of the process chamber, the lid of the process chamber, or a separate appliance. The appliance can be releasably attached to the process chamber body or lid. The laminating machine is programmed for specific autoclave and UV exposure profiles specific to the UV curable adhesives being used.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2019Date of Patent: December 14, 2021Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.Inventors: Paul R. Nemeth, Cameron T. McCalley, Ryan N. Klaassen, James D. Sampica

Patent number: 9979923Abstract: A system and method for video display aboard an aircraft, automobile, or other vehicle includes a housing and an assembly including a display screen partially or completely contained within the housing. When the display screen is impacted by an object or a passenger of the vehicle, brackets and support members absorb and dissipate impact energy such that the display screen is prevented from breakage or dislodgement due to absorbed energy. Instead, the display screen may absorb impact energy insufficient to break it but sufficient to direct or shift the display screen from its original position to a new position. The video display system may also include spring-loaded or actuated brackets to return the display screen to its original position after an impact, and sensors to alert a user to inspect, repair or replace the brackets, display screen, or other system components.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.Inventors: Paul R. Patent number: 9573327Abstract: The present invention is a process for performing a planarization treatment of pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). The process includes positioning a first substrate onto a support surface of a planarization tool. The process further includes placing at least one layer of PSA onto the first substrate. The process further includes positioning a second substrate onto the layer(s) of PSA. The process further includes applying a pressure to the second substrate via a flexible membrane, said pressure being applied in a generally uniform, unidirectional and localized manner. Further, the applied pressure flattens the PSA between the first substrate and the second substrate for promoting suitability of the PSA for use in rigid-to-rigid lamination processes.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2013Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.Inventors: James D. Sampica, Paul R. Nemeth, Tracy J. Barnidge, Vincent P. Marzen
