Abstract: A real-time, on-line method and analytical system for determining halohydrocarbons in water which operate by (1) extracting on-line samples; (2) purging volatile halohydrocarbons from the water (e.g., with air or nitrogen); (3) carrying the purge gas containing the analytes of interest over a porous surface where the analytes are adsorbed; (4) recovering the analytes from the porous surface with heat (thermal desorption) or solvent (solvent elution) to drive the analytes into an organic chemical mixture; (5) generating an optical change (e.g., color change) in dependence upon a reaction involving the analytes and a pyridine derivative; and (6) measuring optical characteristics associated with the reaction to quantify the volatile halogenated hydrocarbon concentration.

Abstract: An inhaler for delivering medicament by inhalation comprises (i) a canister which comprises a body which defines a chamber containing medicament and a valve stem which extends from the body and from which medicament is in use delivered on actuation of the canister, and (ii) an actuator. The actuator comprises a housing in which the canister is received, and an actuating mechanism for actuating the canister. The actuating mechanism comprises a loading member which is fitted to or comprised in the body of the canister, an actuating member which is operable by a user to actuate the canister to deliver medicament, and a drive member which operably couples the loading member and the actuating member and is pivotally mounted, such as to be pivoted on operation of the actuating member to engage and drive the loading member from a first, rest position to a second, actuated position in which the canister is actuated.

Abstract: A device for electrokinetic delivery of medicament to a treatment site includes a cartridge having an active electrode and a membrane overlying the active electrode and a medicament or a medicament and an electrically conductive carrier therefor, carried by the membrane in electrical contact with the electrode. The electrode opens through a surface of the cartridge remote from the membrane for connection with an electrical connector carried by the device. An locking element releasably couples the cartridge to the housing.

Abstract: A fluid dispenser for dispensing a metered volume of a fluid product having a storage chamber for storing the fluid product, a dispensing outlet through which the fluid product is dispensable from the dispenser, a metering chamber having an outlet which places the metering chamber in fluid communication with the dispensing outlet; a plurality of transfer openings through which the fluid product is transferable between the storage and metering chambers; and a boundary wall structure which is cyclically movable between a first configuration, in which the transfer openings are open, and a second configuration, in which the transfer openings are closed is described.

Abstract: A medicament dispenser for use in the storage, presentation and/or dispensing of medicament comprising a body shaped for receipt of a medicament container. In association with the body, there is a first transceiver for transmitting and receiving data. A medicament container is receivable by the body. In association with the medicament container, there is a second transceiver for transmitting and receiving data. Data is transferable in two-way fashion from the first transceiver to the second transceiver. The medicament dispenser may be supplied in kit of parts form.

Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention provides a track (17; 117) adapted for use in a hand-held, capsule-containing device (1; 101) which is adapted to receive a series of capsules (21; 121) therein and defines a conveying path along which the capsules are conveyable. The path includes at least one fold section (23; 123) thereby to provide the path with a space-saving configuration. In another aspect of the present invention there is provided a hand-held device incorporating the track and capsules in the track. The capsules may contain a medicament power.

The dispenser comprises a housing having a support; a container, locatable within said housing, having an outlet, wherein said container dispenses through said outlet in response to movement of the container relative to the housing; and an actuation indicator having an indexing mechanism actuatable by movement of the container relative to the housing. A couple mechanism is provided which couples the indexing mechanism to the container to compensate for any variation in pre-actuation positionings of the indexing mechanism and container.

Abstract: An actuation indicator that includes a drum sub-assembly, which includes a rotatable actuation indicator wheel, a rocking, ratchet pawl for rotating the indicator wheel in a set direction and a rocking mechanism for the pawl driven by a slipping clutch arrangement, is described. The slipping clutch arrangement includes a slipping clutch spring engaged at one end to a pinion of a rack and pinion assembly and at a second end to the ratchet pawl.

Abstract: A drug delivery device for delivering to a patient a drug composition from a container which contains the drug composition where the container is adapted to be placed in a dispensing mode thereof on application of an actuating condition thereto is disclosed. The device includes a dispensing unit adapted to receive the container, the dispensing unit having an actuating mechanism operable to apply the actuating condition to the container and an outlet through which the drug composition is dispensable from the device, and a removable casing unit for the dispensing unit. The dispensing and casing units have securing features for releasably, fixedly securing the units together, and the dispensing unit is operable to apply the actuating condition to the container when fixedly secured to the casing unit and when independent from the casing unit.
