  • Patent number: 6388139
Abstract: A good yield, high reaction rate process is disclosed for the production of perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ethers). The process involves elimination of halogen, preferably chlorine, from carbon atoms &agr; and &bgr; to an ether oxygen in an &agr;,&bgr;-dihaloperfluoro ether wherein the &agr;,&bgr;-dihaloperfluoro ether is allowed to react with zero valent zinc in a pyrrolidinone solvent. More particularly, the inventive process relates to high yield production of CF2═CFOCF2CF2SO2F from CF2ClCFClOCF2CF2SO2F wherein CF2ClCFClOCF2CF2SO2F is allowed to react with zero valent zinc in the presence of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone.

  • Patent number: 5910615
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane and/or 1,1, 1,3,3-pentafluoropropene from (CF.sub.3).sub.2 CHCOOH and/or its water soluble salts. The process involves providing a mixture containing water and such carboxy compound(s) which has a pH of less than about 4, and reacting the mixture at a temperature of at least about 75.degree. C. Certain ether compounds may be included in the mixture along with (CF.sub.3).sub.2 CHCOOH and/or its water soluble salts. The reaction of the carboxy (and optionally ether) compound(s) with water may be employed in connection with a process for producing tetrafluoroethylene and/or hexafluoropropylene by pyrolysis, where by-product perfluoroisobutylene is reacted with water (and optionally an alkanol) to produce (CF.sub.3).sub.2 CHCOOH (and optionally one or more ether compounds).

  • Patent number: 5777179
Abstract: A process for the production of perfluoromethyl perfluorovinyl ether (PMVE) and perfluoroethyl perfluorovinyl ether (PEVE) from hexafluoropropylene epoxide (HFPO) and a mixture comprising carbonyl fluoride (CF) and perfluoroacetyl fluoride (PAF) is disclosed. The process includes a step (a) involving the reaction of hexafluoropropylene epoxide (HFPO) with a mixture of carbonyl fluoride (CF) and perfluoroacetyl fluoride (PAF) to produce a mixture of 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(trifluoromethoxy)propionic acid fluoride (PMPF) and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(pentafluoroethoxy)propionic acid fluoride (PEPF). In a second step, a mixture of PMPF and PEPF made in the step (a) is dehalocarbonylated to produce a mixture of PMVE and PEVE.

  • Patent number: 4113585
Abstract: An ion exchange film comprises a fluorine-containing polymer with (1) ion exchange sites present in a first layer as N-monosubstituted sulfonamido groups or salt thereof formed through reaction of a primary amine and (2) ion exchange sites present in a second layer of the film other than as said N-monosubstituted group or salt thereof. The film is suitable as a separator in a cell for electrolysis of an alkali or alkaline earth metal halide particularly sodium chloride in producing hydrogen, chlorine and caustic soda. In making concentrated caustic soda, high current efficiencies have been obtained in operation of the cell.
