Publication number: 20240269910Abstract: An extrusion die makes a structuring fabric which has structuring-beads resting on sublayer-beads. The extrusion die has a flat first surface and a flat second surface, the first and second surfaces contact each other along a contact line. The first and second surfaces are inclined with respect to each other. The first surface has a first nozzle of a pair of nozzles for extruding a sublayer-bead and the second surface has a second nozzle of the pair of nozzles for extruding a structuring-bead on top of the sublayer-bead. The first nozzle has a substantially rectangular shape and the second nozzle has a shape that resembles a square with all four side edges bulged inwardly. Both the first nozzle and the second nozzle are located in close proximity to the contact line. The first nozzle has a first symmetry axis that is perpendicular to the contact line.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2024Publication date: August 15, 2024Inventors: Rowe Rhett, Paul Raymond Riding, Uwe Köckritz, Craig Davis, Matt Waddle

Publication number: 20240271364Abstract: A structuring fabric for use in a machine to produce a structured fiber web, such as a structured tissue fiber web, has a machine direction, a cross machine direction, and a thickness direction. The structuring fabric includes a woven base fabric with a web facing side and a machine side. A plurality of structuring beads of polymeric material are formed on the web facing side of the woven base fabric, the structuring beads being suitable to provide a visible structure to the fiber web that is produced on the structuring fabric. The structuring beads rest on an upper foundation surface of corresponding sublayer beads of polymeric material. The sublayer beads thereby provide a foundation for the structuring beads. There is also described a production method for producing such a structuring fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2024Publication date: August 15, 2024Inventors: Rowe Rhett, Paul Raymond Riding, Uwe Köckritz, Craig Davis, Matt Waddle

Patent number: 9365975Abstract: A press felt includes a base structure providing dimensional stability in a machine and a cross machine direction of the felt, a batt fiber structure including batt fiber layers attached to the base structure which provide a paper contacting side and a machine contacting side of the felt. The base structure includes a first and second side. Polymeric beads or strands made from a polymeric material are arranged on at least one of the two sides of the base structure. The polymeric beads or strands arranged on the at least one side have a longitudinal expansion in the machine direction of the felt and are arranged side-by-side when viewed in the cross machine direction of the felt to generate space between adjacent beads or strands. At least one of the batt fiber layers is arranged to cover both the at least one side and the polymeric beads or strands thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2014Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: Voith Patent GmbHInventors: Antony Morton, David Stuart Ponton, Paul Raymond Riding, Andrew Allum
