  • Publication number: 20200046062
Abstract: A component for an article of footwear and methods for manufacture thereof are disclosed. The component comprises a first portion of base material of and a second portion of added material. The second portion is bonded to the base material of the first portion by a process of adding material on the base material and the added material forms at least one fastening member for fastening the component to another component of the article of footwear.

  • Publication number: 20190362491
Abstract: A computer-implemented apparatus for performing a genotoxicity assessment in respect of a population of labelled cells pre-treated with, or exposed to, one or more specified substances, conditions and/or environments. The apparatus comprises a imaging flow cytometry system for capturing image files representative of said cell population, wherein each image file is representative of a single cell of said population, a cell-image analysis module configured to receive said image files and generate, in respect of each one thereof, respective cytological profiles; and a machine learning module configured to receive said cytological profiles and, in respect of each of a plurality thereof obtain therefrom one or more characteristics and insert their respective value(s) into a predetermined algorithm to generate a classifier and compare said generated classifier with a predetermined rule to output a score for the respective cell.

  • Publication number: 20170052106
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for the label-free classification of cells using image cytometry is provided. In some exemplary embodiments of the computer implemented method, the classification is the classification of the cells, such as individual cells, into a phase of the cell cycle or by cell type. A user computing device receives as an input one or more images of a cell obtained from a image cytometer. The user computing device extracts features form the one or more images, such as brightfield and/or darkfield images. The user computing device classifies the cell in the one or more images based on the extracted features using a cell classifier. The user computing device then outputs the class label of the cell, as defined by the classifier.

  • Publication number: 20120193552
Abstract: A method of measuring fluorescence from a location, the method comprising applying to the location a first fluorescence excitation signal having a first duty cycle, accumulating as a first result fluorescence that emanates from the location in response to the first excitation signal, applying to the location a second fluorescence excitation signal having a second duty cycle, accumulating as a second result fluorescence that emanates from the location in response to the second excitation signal, and comparing the first and second results to provide a comparison result for the location. The invention also relates to apparatus for performing the method.

  • Publication number: 20110043804
Abstract: An edge-emitter semiconductor laser crystal having a receptacle for sample material which can influence the crystal's laser operation. There may be separate zones of laser action within the crystal, creating respective sensing zones in the receptacle. Detection may be achieved by providing photo-diode regions within the crystal, for example.

  • Publication number: 20030101721
Abstract: A MEMS actuator 1 comprising an actuator member 2 operably engaged by at least one actuator beam 4 and heating means 12 for heating the or each beam 4. The heating may cause expansion of the or each beam4, wherein the or each beam 4 has two ends A, A′ and the or each beam 4 is fixed at only one end A and wherein the expansion effects movement of the actuator member 2. The heating may cause thermal expansion of the beam 4 in one direction and longitudinal displacement of the beam 4 in the direction of thermal expansion, which longitudinal displacement effects movement of the actuator member 2. The beam 4 may act on the member 2 at a position in relation to a pivot point P so as to produce a torque which effects pivoting of the member 2 about the pivot point P. The actuator may have at least two actuator beams 4 and heating the at least two beams 4 may cause simultaneous expansion of the at least two beams 4, which simultaneous expansion effects movement of the actuator member 2.
