Patent number: 6611166Abstract: Circuit and method for determining the presence of a load in a circuit including on a charge pump. The circuit monitors the state of a pump signal indicative of the operating status of the charge pump. The circuit generates a signal indicating the presence or absence of a load. The signal is used to deactivate features of an associated device, thereby reducing the power consumption and extending the life of the power supply (e.g., battery) for the device.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: August 26, 2003Assignee: Sipex CorporationInventors: Paul S. Patent number: 6378026Abstract: A circuit and a method are presented which allow for the detection of an active communication device connected to the circuit. The circuit output signal can be used to reduce the power consumption of related equipment when communication is not detected for a predetermined period of time. The circuit includes a plurality of input terminals coupled to respective inactive detection blocks. The circuit also includes an accumulated delay block having delay circuits in serial electrical communication. Each inactive detection block provides a signal to a respective delay circuit that indicates whether the corresponding input terminal is connected to an active driver in the communication device. Each delay circuit provides a delayed output signal to a subsequent delay circuit. The accumulated delay block provides an output signal indicating the presence or absence of the communication device based on the activity at the input terminals over the predetermined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1999Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: SIPEX CorporationInventors: Paul S. Patent number: 5797759Abstract: The invention provides for a modularized terminal block (100) and an improved method of manufacturing the modular block. The block permits the connection of a plurality of drop wires (550) or other devices (600, 700, 800) in a reversible manner through the use of a standardized plug in module (16) configuration. The module can be optimized for a given drop wire range which then uniformly connects to the base block (10) through a standardized demateable contact (15). The base block (10) electrical contacts (15) are encased in a sealant material (13) such as gel. The mateable plug-in module connectors enclose an electrical contact (24) also surrounded by such sealant (13). Upon mating of the contacts (15, 24), the sealant material (13) is maintained under compression.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1993Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: John S. Patent number: 5789943Abstract: A V.35 compliant driver is disclosed. The driver has three operational modes: OFF, low power (approximately 1/3 full power), and full power. The driver is placed in an appropriate mode based on conditions sensed at driver outputs. More particularly, the driver turns OFF upon sensing a short circuit condition, and reverts back to a normal operating condition following cessation of the short circuit condition by transitioning through a low power mode. Innovative approaches for satisfying V.35 source impedance measurement requirements and driver termination are also disclosed. All of the components associated with the driver reside on a single integrated circuit.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Sipex CorporationInventors: Henry K. Patent number: 5760637Abstract: A programmable charge pump produces a selected one of a plurality of bipolar output voltages in response to a pump select input signal. Transistor switches in the charge pump are controlled by logic circuitry so as to provide the selected bipolar output voltages. The charge pump may include a power management circuit to optimize power consumption by varying the clock frequency based on the current being drawn by the load. The charge pump may be fabricated as an integrated circuit which supports a plurality of interface standards requiring different bipolar supply voltages.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1995Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Sipex CorporationInventors: Henry Wong, Paul S. Chan, Raymond W. B. Chow

Patent number: 5397928Abstract: A voltage tripler which uses a charge pump with a single charge transfer capacitor to produce the required voltage is disclosed. The voltage tripler in conjunction with an inverter is useful for producing voltages with negative polarities. The voltage tripler when used in conjunction with a variable frequency oscillator circuit is useful in optimizing the power consumption by the charge pump of the voltage tripler when the tripler is not operating under load conditions. The tripler is useful in supplying power to a combination RS232 and RS422 or RS232 and RS485 interface, as well as other monolithic interface products.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1994Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Assignee: Sipex CorporationInventors: Paul S. Patent number: 5306954Abstract: Charge pump circuitry is implemented using a voltage shifting technique to generate a symmetrical bipolar voltage. The symmetrical bipolar voltage charge pump power supply can be fabricated as an integrated circuit on a single substrate, and can be integrated with various interface circuits to provide symmetrical bipolar voltage thereto. The charge pump includes voltage shifting circuitry which generates an increased output voltage of a negative polarity and an increased output voltage of a positive polarity. The shifting circuitry is responsive to an internal oscillator which triggers charge accumulation and voltage shifting. Neither output voltage is generated from the other output voltage. Rather, the negative and positive supply voltages are each generated, in substantially the same manner, by charge transfer effected by the voltage shifting circuitry in response to triggering by the internal oscillator.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Sipex CorporationInventors: Paul S. The block permits the connection of a plurality of drop wires or other devices in a reversible manner through the use of a standardized plug in module configuration. The module can be optimized for a given drop wire range which then uniformly connects to the base block through a standardized demateable contact. The mateable connectors each include a collapsible container filled with a sealant material such as gel or grease and an enclosed contact. Upon mating of the contacts, the deformation of the containers maintains the sealant material under compression.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: John S. Patent number: 5173060Abstract: A terminal block, by means of which a multi-core cable is connected to several drop wires, may be repaired by positioning an adapter over its binding posts. The adapter has an aperture into which a non-stripped, non-split, multi-core drop wire can be inserted such that one core of the drop wire is adjacent one binding post. Caps are then screwed onto the binding posts to make contact with respective cores, prebinding posts to make contact with respective cores, preferably by cutting through insulation of the drop wire. The adapter may be adjustable to suit different sizes of terminal block.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1990Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Patent number: 5069636Abstract: This invention provides a terminal block or an adaptor where the binding posts and the caps which screw on the binding posts are adapted to receive small wires without breaking or cutting the wires when the cap is installed with normal installation torque for binding posts. The binding posts and cap can also receive large gauge wires and make connection therewith through the insulation on the wire without cutting or braking the conductor in the wire.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1990Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Patent number: 4975990Abstract: A splash-suppressing toilet seat cover (10) made of a sheet of paper or other disposable folding material. The sheet is cut and folded so that an annular portion acts as a toilet seat cover (16) to prevent body contact with toilet seat (42). The center-cut portion hangs below the user's buttocks (40) and the rest of the seat cover and above the toilet water's surface so as to act as a splash-suppressing device (26). The splash-suppressing device (26) effectively reduces splashing of toilet water caused by the drop of stools into toilet water, and also blocks the splashes, when and if they occur, from contacting the human body. A zig-zag or fan-fold is provided at one end of the cover; this fan-fold extends across the center portion and its adjacent side portions. By unfolding the fan-folds of the center portion and leaving the fan-folds of adjacent portions folded, the center portion can effectively be made longer so that it can hang down below the side portions.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1990Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Inventor: Paul S.
