  • Patent number: 5926558
Abstract: A method of monitoring and inspecting one or more operational characteristics of a knife includes providing at least one image producer having a field of view that substantially frames the knife, using the at least one image producer to form a first series of images of the knife while the knife is in use, and analyzing the first series of images to determine whether the one or more operational characteristics of the knife are within one or more preliminary operating parameters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 5, 1996
Date of Patent: July 20, 1999
    Assignee: Asko, Inc.
Inventors: Albert R. Zelt, III, Robert M. Klawonn, Paul S. Laskey
  • Patent number: 5857031
Abstract: A method of monitoring and inspecting an edge of strip metal includes providing at least one image producer having a field of view that substantially frames the edge, using the at least one image producer to form a first series of images of the edge after the edge has been formed by a knife; and analyzing in real time the first series of images to determine the shear angle and/or the burr height of the edge.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 19, 1996
Date of Patent: January 5, 1999
    Assignee: ASKO, Inc.
Inventors: Albert R. Zelt, III, Robert M. Klawonn, Paul S. Laskey
  • Patent number: 5768154
Abstract: A method of monitoring a dimension of strip stock formed by a cutting device includes: providing an image producer that is movable between a home position and at least one subsequent position associated with the strip stock; moving the image producer to the at least one subsequent position where the field of view of the image producer substantially frames the strip stock dimension to be monitored; forming a first image of the strip stock dimension; and analyzing the first image of the strip stock dimension to determine the length thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 1996
Date of Patent: June 16, 1998
    Assignee: Asko, Inc.
Inventors: Albert R. Zelt, III, Paul S. Laskey
  • Patent number: 4819168
Abstract: A microprocessor control system is provided for a steel wheel vehicle having at least two propulsion/braking units. Each unit operates a truck having a pair of axles each with two steel wheels. A propulsion/braking control includes a microprocessor that applies current commands to respective chopper controls that operate the axle motor drives. Braking command signals operate the associated braking system to apply dynamic and/or friction braking in the braking mode.
