  • Patent number: 7531089
Abstract: A new and improved in situ biogeochemical reactor, methods for constructing such reactors, and methods for using such reactors, for biodegradation, detoxification and mineralization of toxic organic and inorganic compounds, especially dioxins, in contaminated geologic settings, such as waterways is disclosed. The system includes both an anaerobic component and an aerobic component that are coupled to each other. The system is enriched with carbon, nutrients and growth factors in sufficient amounts to establish a full spectrum oxidation-reduction gradient thereby enabling, promoting and providing indigenous microbial populations to biodegrade, detoxify, and mineralize toxic organic and inorganic compounds in a contaminated geological site.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 2007
Date of Patent: May 12, 2009

  • Patent number: 6946496
Abstract: An artificial soil includes a plurality of foam plastic fragments. A gel coating is disposed about substantially each of the fragments. Minerals are disposed within the gel coating.

  • Patent number: 5948674
Abstract: An organic waste composting system is provided for rapidly, economically and naturally composting organic waste. A container having a gas impermeable floor, sides and top is provided with a gas inlet port and a gas exhaust port. An air floor is provided within the container, the air floor being gas permeable and impermeable to solids contained within the container. The system farther includes a mixing blade dimensioned so that shear forces produced by the blade when rotated within the organic waste are substantially equal to the viscoelastic forces of the organic waste particles. The mixing blade is dimensioned to further shear the waste to a size which increases its surface area-to-volume ratio without compacting it, thus providing suitable moisture distribution, particle distribution and air channels between particles.
