  • Patent number: 8831348
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing a navigation interface to access or otherwise use image content items. In one embodiment, an image manipulation application identifies at least one offset curve corresponding to at least one base curve. The offset curve may identify an offset curve corresponding to the outer boundary of a feathered region for an image mask. The image manipulation application identifies multiple line segments identifying the offset curve. Each line segment connects a sampled point along the path of the base curve to a corresponding point along the path of the offset curve. The image manipulation application determines that the offset curve includes a retrograde region based on analyzing the line segments. The image manipulation application modifies the at least one offset curve to eliminate at least some of the retrograde region by applying a radius-modulating filter to one or more of the line segments.

  • Patent number: 8533086
Abstract: A method of arranging for payment of a purchase includes receiving, from a supplier, agreement to accept a payment from a buyer via use of a payment card having variable payment terms; after a purchase by the buyer from the supplier, assessing the supplier a standard interchange rate; receiving, from the buyer, approval to pay the invoice; and issuing, to the supplier, a rebate, based upon when the approval to pay the invoice was received. the variable payment terms are calculated by: determining a first early payment date; determining a second standard payment date; assessing against the supplier a first percentage of the standard interchange rate if the invoice is approved by the first early payment date; and assessing against the supplier a second percentage of the standard interchange rate if the invoice is approved on or after the second standard payment date.

  • Publication number: 20130207815
Abstract: A remote water meter monitoring system is provided. A mesh network-type transceiver unit is coupled to a water meter housing having a water counting mechanism inside to transmit water consumption information as well as other sensor information, such as backflow detection, water pressure, and water metrics (e.g., residual chlorine and temperature) to a central server system via a bridge device and a corresponding mesh network. Mechanical energy from the water flowing through the water meter housing is converted to electrical energy via an energy conversion unit. An electrically powered shut off valve is remote addressable via the transceiver unit.

  • Patent number: 8467107
Abstract: According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided methods and systems for correcting illumination defects in document handlers. A document handler successively moves an image-bearing sheet past an image sensor, when the edges of the document passes over the edge guide near a constant velocity transport roll the document tends to flick down onto the image sensor causing a lightness change at the edges. The proposed correction is dynamically adjusting the light source or dynamically adjusting the automatic gain control (AGC) of the imaging sensor. The method comprises characterizing an optical signal reflected from an image-bearing sheet as it passes a scan window, determining the illumination defects in at least one edge region based on the reflected signal, and adjusting the gain of the imaging sensor or the light level during receipt of the optical signal.

  • Publication number: 20130009048
Abstract: An immersion probe is described that includes sensing elements that allow for hydrate inhibitor dosage to be more efficiently provided into gas and/or oil wells. The immersion probe allows for detection of first appearance of water in a multiphase flow in a well, measuring the amount of inhibitor in water within the well, determining an accurate water-cut, and measuring other property such as water salinity. Accordingly, with the known water-cut, salinity and the water flow rate inferred from the inhibitor injection flow rate and inhibitor-in-water fraction, a correct dosage of the inhibitor can be injected to the well in order to prevent hydrate formation, while reducing overdosing. Water flow rate may also be inferred from an independently measured liquid flow rate and the immersion-probe measured water cut.

  • Patent number: 8347958
Abstract: Acoustic monitoring is carried out using a fiber optic cable. Coherent Rayleigh noise generated by the transmission of a coherent beam of radiation through the fiber optic cable is detected, a phase of the coherent Rayleigh noise is measured and the measured phase is processed to identify an acoustic occurrence along the fiber optic cable. In certain aspects, an optical fiber serves as a distributed interferometer that may be used to monitor a conduit, wellbore or reservoir. The distributed interferometric monitoring provides for accurate detection of acoustic occurrences along the fiber optic cable and these acoustic occurrences may include fluid flow in a pipeline or wellbore, processes taking place in a wellbore or pipeline, fracturing, gravel packing, or production logging.
