Patent number: 11840897Abstract: A process for removing free liquids from oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste. A process is described wherein a high gravity centripetal separator and low temperature thermal process are cooperatively used to enhance the mechanical and thermal separation methods, resulting in improved efficiency of the hydrocarbon and water removal process. A process is also described wherein the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste is heated to strip volatile constituents and excess water from the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings to further enhance the mechanical and thermal separation methods resulting in improved efficiency of the hydrocarbon and water removal process. A less expensive process is also described where the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings waste is heated to strip volatile constituents and excess water from the oil base mud contaminated drill cuttings to further enhance the recoverable liquids phase during mechanical separation.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2020Date of Patent: December 12, 2023Assignee: RECOVER ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Stan Ross, Paul Sudlow

Patent number: 11199063Abstract: A hermetically sealed horizontal washing decanter centrifuge for enhanced drilling fluid recovery and drilled solids washing. A process and apparatus for liquid phase-solid phase separation of oil based drilling mud-containing drill cuttings is described including flowing the drilling mud-containing drill cuttings into a horizontal washing decanter wherein the stresses imposed within the decanter act as a wash as the diluent and oil based drilling mud move away from the drill cuttings. Diluent is added prior to flowing the drilling mud containing drill cutting to the hermetically sealed horizontal washing decanter centrifuge. The entire process is performed in a gas-tight environment preventing escape of diluent from the process into the external atmosphere and preventing introduction of gases into the process from the external atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2017Date of Patent: December 14, 2021Assignee: RECOVER ENERGY SERVICES INC.Inventors: Stan Ross, Mike Biersteker, Wendell Palmer, Paul Sudlow

Patent number: 11090584Abstract: Gas-tight decanter centrifuge process for separation of volatile organic compounds from drilling fluid. A method is described for removing low gravity solids from a mixture of recovered oil based drilling fluid and low gravity solids and diluent. A gas-tight decanter centrifuge that is designed and constructed for this purpose in a gas-tight manor so to ensure vapour cannot escape the decanting process, and foreign oxygen cannot enter the process under normal operating conditions.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2016Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: RECOVER ENERGY SERVICES INC.Inventors: Stan Ross, Paul Sudlow

Patent number: 10328364Abstract: A process for removing hydrocarbons and water from hydrocarbon and/or water containing drilling waste. The process includes introducing hydrocarbon contaminated drill cuttings and a cleaning solvent into a solvent wash tank. Prior to introducing the hydrocarbon contaminated drill cuttings into a solvent wash tank, the hydrocarbon contaminated drill cuttings are treated with a hydrocarbon solvent such as hexane to break the surface tension of the hydrocarbons in a solvent sealed vertical centrifugal separator to remove hydrocarbons from the hydrocarbon contaminated drill cuttings, resulting in improved efficiency of the hydrocarbon removal process. Apparatus for performing the process is also described.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2017Date of Patent: June 25, 2019Assignee: RECOVER ENERGY SERVICES INC.Inventors: Stan Ross, Mike Biersteker, Wendell Palmer, Paul Sudlow

Publication number: 20120160187Abstract: This invention provides a new process to generate steam directly from untreated water produced simultaneously with thermally recovered crude oil, and to inject the steam and combustion products into a hydrocarbon reservoir to recover hydrocarbons and to sequester a portion of the carbon dioxide produced during the creation of steam. The invention removes the ongoing additional water requirements for thermal oil recovery and the need for surface treating of produced water for re-use, yielding improved process efficiencies, reduced environmental impact, and improved economic value.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2011Publication date: June 28, 2012Applicants: Paxton Corporation, Paramount Resources Ltd., Clean Energy Systems, Inc.Inventors: Gary L. Bunio, Ian Donald Gates, Paul Sudlow, Roger E. Anderson, Murray E. Propp
