  • Patent number: 6087440
Abstract: A polyurethane/urea/thiourea latex having a narrow molecular weight polydispersity and sub-micron particle size can be prepared by first preparing a high solids (between about 65% and 74% solids) latex of a polyurethane/urea/thiourea prepolymer, then contacting the emulsion with a chain-extending reagent under such conditions to form the polymer latex.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 1999
Date of Patent: July 11, 2000
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Kenneth W. Skaggs, Rick L. Tabor, Paul T. Louks, Wayne R. Willkomm
  • Patent number: 5287637
Abstract: An apparatus for the constrained drying and/or heat treating of a continuous or roll of, web stock of film. This apparatus includes a mechanism which grasps a film by its edges and moves said film through a drying zone, with said mechanism holding said film taut without substantial stretching of said film in the drying zone, and a means to remove the evaporated solvent from said apparatus. The apparatus is particularly useful for drying film of polybenzoxazole, polybenzothiazole and copolymers thereof, as well as molecular composite films. A method of drying/heat treating film is also disclosed.

Inventors: Thuan P. Dixit, Paul T. Louks
  • Patent number: 5236649
Abstract: The present invention is a coated particulate in the form of a powder or in the form of a pellet, the particulate comprising a vinylidene chloride interpolymer and being coated with at least one processing aid at a level effective to improve the extrudability of the vinylidene chloride interpolymer. The processing aid beneficially is selected from the group consisting of fatty esters; wax esters; glycerol esters; glycol esters; fatty alcohol esters, fatty alcohols; fatty amides; metallic salts of fatty acids; olefin polymers and polyolefin waxes.

  • Patent number: 5006368
Abstract: Plastic particles showing improved behavior upon extrusion, comprising coating the particles with a fused layer of certain waxes or polymeric materials; and a method of preparation, comprising heating the plastic particles to a temperature just below the softening or fusing temperature of the additive while blending the particle in a high intensity blender, introducing the additive and maintaining intense blending until the temperature is above the fusing temperature of the additive, and discharging the coated particles from the blender.
