  • Patent number: 10306309
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for determining aspects of a user interface, and determining therefrom a service or device that corresponds to the user interface. In doing so, a user's activity can be profiled, and aggregate usage data over a population of particular devices and OTT applications can be tracked. Moreover, losses and gains of popularity of services or devices may be monitored.

  • Patent number: 10291958
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for measuring audience engagement for a media asset using user motion. For example, a media guidance application may receive movement logs from a plurality of user equipment. These movement logs may contain information indicating when each of the plurality of users moved, as detected by motion sensors, while the user equipment was generating for display a media asset. The movement logs may be analyzed to determine time periods during the media asset during which greater than a certain number of the plurality of users were moving. These time periods may in turn be used to infer how engaged the plurality of users were during the media asset or what portions of the media asset the plurality of users viewed. This data may be used to determine in what media assets, or portions thereof, supplemental video content should be inserted.

  • Patent number: 10271087
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application configured to monitor attentiveness of a user based on the brain activity of the user. For example, a media guidance application may monitor brain activity associated with an attentiveness level of the user and in response to determining the attentiveness level of the user does not correspond to the threshold attentiveness level, perform an operation associated with a low attentiveness level of the user (e.g., performing a scan operation through various content providers).

  • Patent number: 10163008
Abstract: Systems and methods that provide for an interactive media guidance application implemented in a user device, e.g., an app on a mobile phone. The interactive media guidance application uses the geographical location, e.g., longitude and latitude coordinates, and geospatial orientation, e.g., gyroscopic angles, of the user device to allow the user to capture images of the location in the same manner as the location was depicted in his or her favorite film or television program. The interactive media guidance application can deliver to the user the desired immersive experience where he or she sees and has the same viewpoint as the director or another person associated with the film or television program.

  • Publication number: 20180220198
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for identifying viewers who are engaged in a media asset but unlikely to consume secondary content, and presenting, to the identified viewers, some secondary content designed to incentivize the identified viewers to consume secondary content. These systems and methods determine that a viewer is engaged in a media asset upon determining level of engagement of the viewer in the media asset is greater than a threshold value. These systems and methods determine that the viewer is unlikely to consume secondary content upon determining level of engagement of the viewer in secondary content is less than a threshold value. These systems and methods, upon determining that the viewer is engaged in the media asset but unlikely to consume secondary content, generate for display secondary content related to the media asset during breaks in the media asset.

  • Publication number: 20180181996
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for allowing a user to grant or deny a third party access to different portions of the user's profile characteristics. Control circuitry may calculate an optimal promotion offer from a third party to a user based on a first layer of the user's profile characteristics matching a target-audience profile of the third party. Control circuitry may then generate for display the optimal promotion offer to the user. In response to receiving a selection of the optimal promotion offer from the user, control circuitry may receive further selections, from the user, of a subset of the user's profile characteristics to share with the third party, and then generate for display, to the user, an actual promotion offer based on the selected subset of profile characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20180184168
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for identifying information that will enable a merchant to better target a promotion to a user, and requesting the information from the user in a query. A target audience profile may be used to determine promotions that should be targeted to the user. A media guidance application may retrieve publicly available information about the user. The media guidance application may compare the publicly available information about the user with the target audience profile to determine whether there is a match. Upon determining that that the user neither definitely matches the target audience profile nor definitely does not match the target audience profile, the media guidance application may generate a query for requesting additional information from the user that will allow the media guidance application to determine whether the user matches the target audience profile or does not match the target audience profile.

  • Publication number: 20180096221
Abstract: Systems and methods that provide for an interactive media guidance application for receiving a segment of a media asset relating to a user image. The interactive media guidance application may receive the user image captured by the user device. The interactive media guidance application may identify a reference image from the media asset. The interactive media guidance application may determine whether a first fingerprint of the user image matches a second fingerprint of the reference image. The interactive media guidance application may identify the segment from the media asset featuring the reference image based on the first fingerprint matching the second fingerprint. The interactive media guidance application may generate for display on the user device the segment of the media asset.

  • Patent number: 9819996
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for using fingerprinting techniques on user interfaces, such as source indicators, application indicators, and the like, to determine the source of any given user interface. For example, a source of a user interface may be determined to be a particular console, such as an XBOX console, or a particular application, such as Netflix, a video streaming application. The use of various user interfaces tracked over time may indicate a loss or gain of popularity of a given source corresponding to a given user interface.
