Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving receiver performance in a multicarrier communication network in which an encoded symbol is transmitted over a transmission channel in the communications system. A model of the transmission channel is estimated, said model characterising an effect of intercarrier interference on at least one carrier in the multicarrier system. The received symbol is decoded using the estimated model to remove a predicted effect of intercarrier interference. A pre-processor is also described for operation in conjunction with a communications receiver in the network. The pre-processor includes a channel estimator operable to estimate at least one feature of the communication channel based on a received signal. The pre-processor modifies the received signal dependent on the at least one estimated feature and provides the modified signal to the communications receiver.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to optical elements including a performance-enhancing coating on the surface of a metal or ceramic substrate and to methods for making the optical elements. The optical elements are suitable for use in harsh environments, including salt fog and high humidity environments. The performance-enhancing coating and substrate have similar thermal expansion properties and the performance-enhancing coating has a diamond-turned surface. The performance-enhancing coating may also be polished with a solution of colloidal silica in glycol to an RMS surface roughness less than 30 ?.

Abstract: A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system included high thermal conductivity materials such as copper to increase thermal energy transfer by thermal conduction. The copper is protected from oxidation by nickel electroplating and protected from thermal damage by providing Hastelloy liners inside combustion chambers. Monel elements are used in the incoming air conduits to prevent cathode poisoning.

Abstract: A shaft assembly is provided for interconnecting at least one rotatable drive shaft of a hand-held electromechanical surgical device, and an end effector actuatable by an axial drive force. The shaft assembly includes a flexible drive cable rotatably supported in an outer tube, the flexible drive cable includes a proximal end operatively connected to a respective rotatable drive shaft of the hand-held surgical device. The flexible drive cable being off set a radial distance from a central longitudinal axis of the outer tube. The shaft assembly includes an articulation rod at least partially slidably supported in the outer tube, and an articulation link having a proximal end pivotally connected to the distal end of the articulation rod and a distal end pivotally connected to a distal neck housing. Abstract: A three dimensional printer is configured to move at least one printhead from an area where the printhead is forming an object to a position opposite a shaft. The at least one printhead is operated to eject material onto the shaft and the shaft is rotated to enable a light sensor to generate signals indicative of a height of material at a plurality of positions on the shaft. The signals are compared to an expected height of material at each position to identify inoperative inkjets in the at least one printhead.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for managing digital marketing to a multiplicity of consumers by way of portable wireless digital devices. The system comprises a simplified human-device interface stored on the portable wireless digital devices. An instrumentation subsystem collects interaction and behavioral data from the simplified human-device interface. A campaign management subsystem permits digital marketing content to be made available and the display of content options to be defined to operate in a controlled way. An analytics subsystem processes the interaction and behavioral data in accordance with a knowledge the states of each of the consumers to permit controlling marketing content and promotions to the consumer. A display subsystem stored on the portable wireless digital device controls the display of marketing content and promotions at specific locations within the human-device interface.

Abstract: There is disclosed a shoe mounted gradiometer tool. The tool includes an enclosed housing having a convex interior base and a transparent top. A ball is disposed within the enclosed housing. The ball is sized and shaped to roll on the convex interior base. There is a mounting piece connected to the enclosed housing for securing the enclosed housing to an exterior surface of a shoe. The position of the shoe mounted gradiometer tool may be adjusted by placing a fastener through a fastener-receiving hole on the mounting piece. The fastener is loosely connected to a shoe. The orientation of the housing is adjusted by pivoting the housing around the fastener-receiving hole so that a marked level position of the tool corresponds to the lowest position of the convex interior base. The mounting piece is then mounted fixedly to the shoe.

Abstract: Integrated methods and systems for recycling waste material including waste paper are provided, the methods including treating the waste material in the pressure vessel at an elevated processing temperature and an elevated processing pressure to form a treated waste material including a substantially re-pulped waste paper; discharging the treated waste material from the pressure vessel; and thereafter separating and diluting the treated waste material to dilute a portion including the substantially re-pulped waste paper to from about 1% to about 20% by weight solids. The recovered paper pulp fraction and substantially fiber-free recoverable/recyclable plastics and metals may be further separated and used as feedstock in a variety of subsequent processes.

Abstract: A system that allows developers to designate transactions for an application to track and monitor the performance of their applications on various mobile devices. In some embodiments, each transaction is composed of multiple interactions across several different screens that interact with different services or functions. The transactions of some embodiments overlap or are nested within each other, so that multiple transactions are monitored simultaneously. In some embodiments, each transaction is assigned a value, allowing a developer to prioritize troubleshooting in an application, as well as quantifying the costs of various issues in the application. In some embodiments, the system includes a transaction agent is installed on various devices that identifies and monitors transactions in the system and a transaction server that receives transaction data from the mobile devices and processes the data to allow a developer to monitor the performance of the application.

Abstract: The process for liquefying a gaseous stream received from a pipeline that is comprised predominantly of ethane and a relatively small amount of other components by using a mixed refrigerant loop incorporating heavy hydrocarbons (butane, and/or pentane), as well as a distillation column to remove constituents lighter than ethane. Prior to cooling in a main heat exchanger, the gaseous stream is split into two fractions. The first fraction is cooled in the main heat exchanger and introduced to the distillation column. The second fraction is expanded to produce a two phase fluid, with the liquid fraction being introduced to the distillation column below the first fraction, and the gas fraction being cooled and then introduced to the distillation column at a point above the first fraction.
