  • Patent number: 9198763
Abstract: A spacer for implantation into a subject is provided that includes a sterilized piece of cartilaginous allograft tissue. The piece forms a Y-shape with a base adapted to insert within a first carpo-metacarpal joint or carpo-metatarsal joint of the subject, and has a first area adapted to secure to a trapezium bone adjoining the joint, and a second arm adapted to secure to a proximal metacarpal or metatarsal bone adjoining the joint. A procedure for implanting the spacer includes exposing a target joint and abrading a bone surface interior to the joint to induce surface bleeding. The spacer base is then inserted into the joint. The spacer first arm is adhered to the first bone of the joint and the spacer second arm is adhered to the second bone of the joint. A kit is also provided for surgical implantation of the spacer.

  • Patent number: 9203616
Abstract: An improved technique involves storing current and one previous version of the secret shares in their respective databases. Along these lines, authentication servers split the proactivization process into several phases, during which they communicate a failure or success to complete that phase. During one of these phases, the authentication servers delete a previous version of their secret share and label the current version as the previous version. At another phase, the authentication servers generate a new version of each secret share (via one way deterministic transform) and store that new version alongside that previous version. Accordingly, when a user submits secret shares for authentication to the authentication servers, each authentication server determines the state of the corresponding authentication server and chooses the secret share according to that state.

  • Patent number: 9199565
Abstract: A lumbar support system for a seat backrest having a fixed frame includes a lumbar support coupled to the fixed frame that is movable from a first position to a second position and a motor for moving the lumbar support. A threaded member is operatively associated with the motor such that the motor rotates the threaded member about an axis. A traveling member is operatively associated with the threaded member such that rotation of the threaded member translates the traveling member along the threaded member. The system further includes a flexible cable having a first end and a second end. The first end is coupled to the traveling member for movement therewith and the second end is coupled to the fixed frame such that translation of the traveling member in response to rotation of the threaded member moves the lumbar support element from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 9203338
Abstract: An electric power assembly for a vehicle is disclosed. An electric motor includes a stator and a rotor being rotatable about a pivot axis relative to the stator. An inverter is coupled to the electric motor and includes a power switching device that outputs an electrical signal from the inverter at a first frequency and having interference at a second frequency. The second frequency is a byproduct of the electrical signal creating the first frequency. The stator is electrically connected to the inverter to receive the first frequency such that the stator produces a first magnetic field. A frequency filter is attached to the rotor and directs the portion of the electrical signal having the second frequency to the rotor such that the rotor produces a second magnetic field that interacts with the first magnetic field to rotate the rotor about the pivot axis relative to the stator.

  • Patent number: 9201520
Abstract: A “Motion and Context Sharing Technique” uses a pen or stylus enhanced to incorporate multiple sensors, i.e., a “sensor pen,” and a power supply to enable various input techniques and gestures. Various combinations of pen stroke, pressure, motion, and other sensor pen inputs are used to enable various hybrid input techniques that incorporate simultaneous, concurrent, sequential, and/or interleaved, sensor pen inputs and touch inputs (i.e., finger, palm, hand, etc.) on displays or other touch sensitive surfaces. This enables a variety of motion-gesture inputs relating to the context of how the sensor pen is used or held, even when the pen is not in contact or within sensing range of the computing device digitizer. In other words, any particular touch inputs or combinations of touch inputs are correlated with any desired sensor pen inputs, with those correlated inputs then being used to initiate any desired action by the computing device.

  • Patent number: 9203458
Abstract: An inline tray assembly (300) for receiving multiple data cards is shown. The tray assembly (300) can include: an inline tray assembly (300) including a tray module (302) configured to receive multiple different data cards and a tray receptacle (304). The tray module (302) has a first data card receiving cavity (306) for receiving a first data card (308) and a second data card receiving cavity (310) for receiving a second data card (312). The first and the second data card receiving cavities (306) and (310) are shown aligned along an x-axis, in compass (314). The tray receptacle (304) has an opening (316) or interface configured to receive the tray module (302). Advantageously, this structure provides an improved assembly capable of accepting two or more data cards in a small area and minimizes the possibility of damage to the data cards. Thus, a user can easily insert and place data cards in a device.

  • Patent number: 9204313
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in a first communication node in a wireless communications network comprising a plurality of second communication nodes for enabling a central processing of local data from second communication nodes in the network. The first communication node establishes (82) an intemode connection in a radio access network of the wireless communications network to a second communication node wherein information is sent of a virtual cell of the first communication node. The first communication node then requests (84) and receives (86) local information from the second communication node. The received local information is then processed (88) into processed data to be used to centrally process the local information of the second communication node. For centrally processing the local information, the processed data is transmitted (90) to a third communication node.

  • Patent number: 9198789
Abstract: A bariatric device and method of causing at least partial satiety in a recipient includes positioning a body in a recipient, the body having a wall defining a lumen, the wall configured to generally conform to the shape and size of the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach. Force is exerted with the wall on the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach in the absence of food thereby activating receptors located in the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach, thereby influencing a neurohormonal feedback mechanism of the recipient to cause at least partial satiety by augmenting fullness caused by food and simulating fullness in the absence of food.

  • Patent number: 9203921
Abstract: A partitioned network has several subdomains (1, 2, 3,) each having a respective access server (10, 20, 30) and each serving a plurality of end users (11, 12; 21, 22; 31, 32). Each access server (10, 20, 30) is connected to a respective content cache (13, 23) or a set of such caches (130, 131, 132), which stores content and downloads it to end users on request. An alternative routing (19, 29) may be available between an access server (10) and a content cache (23) other than its associated cache (13), for use in exceptional circumstances. All the content caches (13, 23), are given the same IP address, “W.X.Y.Z”. Each access server (10, 20, 30) operates exclusively in a geographic sub-domain, and recognizes the IP address W.X.Y.Z as relating uniquely to its respective associated content cache 13, (23, 23) This means that the configuration of each access server (10, 20, 30) to handle content caching/distribution/streaming can be the same regardless of its location in the network.

  • Patent number: 9202118
Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for determining a pixel classification threshold for vehicle occupancy determination. An IR image of a moving vehicle is captured using a multi-band IR imaging system. A driver's face is detected using a face recognition algorithm. Multi-spectral information extracted from pixels identified as human tissue of the driver's face is used to determine a pixel classification threshold. This threshold is then used to facilitate a classification of pixels of a remainder of the IR image. Once pixels in the remainder of the image have been classified, a determination can be made whether the vehicle contains additional human occupants other than the driver. An authority is alerted in the instance where the vehicle is found to be traveling in a HOV/HOT lane requiring two or more human occupants and a determination has been made that the vehicle contains an insufficient number of human occupants.

  • Patent number: 9201724
Abstract: A technique for providing end-to-end data protection while supporting multiple cyclic-redundancy-check (CRC) algorithms includes receiving a data block protected by a first CRC. The first CRC is generated using a first CRC algorithm. The integrity of the data block is checked using the first CRC and the first CRC algorithm. A second CRC for the data block is then computed using a second CRC algorithm different from the first CRC algorithm. The data block, first CRC, and second CRC are stored on a storage medium, such as magnetic tape.
