  • Patent number: 5368052
Abstract: There is disclosed a hairpiece comprising a molded, flexible, plastic foundation member covered by a sheet of net material having spaced-apart cross-elements. The foundation member has a large central opening therein traversed by said net material. A group of hairs is provided having double knots tied around cross-elements of the net material traversing said central opening so as to be freely movable back and forth. Other groups of hairs are secured to the foundation member for providing a natural looking part, and for covering edges of the hairpiece foundation.

  • Patent number: 5117846
Abstract: A hairpiece construction includes a reticulate foundation sheet member having a mesh structure of generally regular mesh openings and a generally domed configuration adapted to the contour of a wearer's scalp and head. The reticulate foundation sheet member also includes a plurality of through apertures with effective diameters larger than the mesh openings in order to enable manipulated feeding of the wearer's own hair strands through the respective apertures during the fitting operation. The apertures are distributed in a spaced arrangement so that even limited amounts and pattern of the wearer's own hair can be fed through the apertures and thereby contribute to the anchoring and stability of the foundation and hairpiece. The hair strands of the hairpiece are secured directly to the reticulate foundation.

  • Patent number: 5033486
Abstract: A hairpiece is attached and fitted by first removing from the scalp of the wearer, a length of the wearer's natural hair along a band below the wearer's natural hair line, and attaching the hairpiece along the band of removed hair in order to produce a long-term and closely fitting securement of the hairpiece to the scalp. Preferably, the band of removed natural hair extends along a generally circumferential length around the wearer's scalp while retaining a small amount of short strands of the natural hair within the band to promote bonded adhesion of the hairpiece foundation along the band.

  • Patent number: 4517999
Abstract: A superbly fitting hairpiece foundation comprising a flexible-sheet member and a reticulate member is disclosed. The flexible-sheet member has a predetermined curvature and is adapted substantially to conform to the head of a particular user. The sheet member has at least one hole sufficient in size for permitting substantial dissipation of heat or perspiration or both away from the head and through the sheet member. The reticulate member is attached to the sheet member and covers the hole or holes. The reticulate member includes a plurality of openings which provide adequate surface area, in the aggregate, for permitting the above-mentioned dissipation phenomen on to occur thereby permitting the user with a relative degree of comfort.

  • Patent number: 4456019
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a hairpiece, and to a method of making the same, and more particularly, to a hairpiece having a thin, flexible, transparent sheet member vacuum formed from thermo-setting plastic film, with hair strands extending through the sheet member and from the outer surface thereof. The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein includes a low-viscosity penetrating, anaerobic adhesive applied to the hair strands during their extent through the sheet member to secure the hair strands in place, and further includes a removable smooth transparent plastic coating on the undersurface of the sheet member.

  • Patent number: 4453555
Abstract: A hairpiece foundation, comprising a number of layers of components, is disclosed. A first component, the base layer, has a predetermined curvature and conforms substantially to the head of a human subject. A second component, a first adhesive substance, is bonded to an exterior surface of the first component. A third component, a first surface coating, is bonded to the second component. A fourth component, a second adhesive substance, is bonded to an interior surface of the base layer. A fifth component, a second surface coating, is bonded to the fourth component. A sixth component, a third adhesive substance, is bonded to the fifth component. A seventh component, a layer of thermoplastic urethane film similar to the base layer, is bonded to the sixth component.
