Publication number: 20090292502Abstract: A drain cleaning machine with an electronic cable monitoring system is disclosed which comprises a frame supporting a rotatable drum which is driven by a motor through an endless belt. The drum contains a flexible drain cleaning cable which is rotatable with the drum and axially displaceable into and out from the drum, and the frame supports a cable feeding device through which the cable extends and by which the cable is displaced into and out of the drum. An electronic cable monitoring system is configured to assess an amount of cable payed out from and retracted into the drum. A process determines an amount and direction of relative movement between a rotatable drum and a cable follower member and generates a signal representative of an amount of cable payed out or retracted into the drum.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2009Publication date: November 26, 2009Applicant: EMERSON ELECTRIC CO.Inventors: Paul W. Publication number: 20030230132Abstract: Apparatus actuated by a rotational drive for crimping a fitting are disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a crimp ring having at least two crimp ring segments pivotably coupled together for crimping the fitting. A first member, such as a trunnion or coupling arm, engages a first of the at least two segments, and a second such member engages a second of the at least two segments. A screw is coupled to the rotating drive. The screw is coupled to the first and second members such that at least one of the members is movable along the screw when the screw is rotated. In one embodiment, the rotational drive couples to the screw by a transfer mechanism for transferring and controlling rotational movement from the rotational drive to the screw. The transfer mechanism can include a plurality of gears or can include a universal joint. The rotational drive can be a drill or can be a socket and a ratchet.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 16, 2003Publication date: December 18, 2003Applicant: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Richard R. Patent number: 5074176Abstract: A rotatable chuck for supporting a plastic coated workpiece in a power driven threading machine is disclosed comprising workpiece engaging jaws mounted on the machine spindle for rotation therewith and for pivotal movement relative thereto radially inwardly and outwardly of the spindle axis. Each jaw pivotally supports an insert holder provided with a pair of inserts for engaging the outer surface of the workpiece. Each of the insert holders pivotally supports a centering link associated with an adjacent jaw so as to be actuated in response to pivotal displacement of the jaws radially inwardly of the spindle axis to control the attitude of the insert holders so that the inserts are directed radially inwardly of the spindle axis to assure a uniform gripping action by the two inserts of each holder upon engagement with the workpiece. The centering links also displace the workpiece to a centered position coaxial with the spindle axis during inward displacement of the jaws.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1991Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: James C. Patent number: 4811639Abstract: An attachment is disclosed for use with a power driven threading machine of the character having a tubular workpiece receiving spindle carrying jaw assemblies which engage and disengage a workpiece in the spindle. During a threading operation, the jaws engage a workpiece and thereafter rotate the workpiece and spindle in one direction about the spindle axis. When the jaws are displaced to release the workpiece, the jaws and spindle are rotated in the opposite direction about the spindle axis. The disclosed attachment is adapted to be received in the threading machine spindle in place of a workpiece to provide a driving coupling such as for an auxiliary tool assembly supported on the threading machine.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1988Date of Patent: March 14, 1989Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Paul W.
