  • Patent number: 4072471
Abstract: A catalytic converter for use in a gaseous stream comprises cylindrical segments of monolithic ceramic impregnated with catalytically active materials, such as hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide conversion catalysts, axially spaced apart by greater than 1/4 inch within a cylindrical metal container, said container having a gas inlet upstream from said spaced apart segments and a gas outlet downstream therefrom and a plurality of spaced apart protruding fins attached to the outer circumference thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 28, 1974
Date of Patent: February 7, 1978
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Charles R. Morgan, Jr., Paul W. Snyder, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4043899
Abstract: Catalyst and hydrocarbon vapors are separated in a cyclone attached to the discharge of a riser cracking operation. The cyclone is modified to include a separate cyclonic stripping of catalyst separated from hydrocarbon vapors.

  • Patent number: 4036779
Abstract: A regenerator design and method are provided which rely upon a segmented regeneration gas distributor grid to vary regeneration gas flow upwardly through the bed of catalyst above. The design includes an expanding annular section formed by a curved vertically extending baffle positioned adjacent and downstream of the catalyst tangential inlet and a radical dilute phase baffle extending from slightly beneath the bed surface to above the cyclone inlets. The width of the dilute phase baffle is from the wall of the regenerator to the center thereof, and beyond the rim of the catalyst outlet. Further, all cyclone diplegs between the outlet and inlet should be positioned to discharge tangentially to the swirl.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 19, 1977
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Klaus W. Schatz, Paul W. Snyder, Jr.
  • Patent number: 3970587
Abstract: A fluid catalytic cracking - catalyst regeneration system is described wherein regeneration of a crystalline zeolite hydrocarbon conversion catalyst is accomplished at an elevated temperature in the presence of regenerated catalyst mixed therewith in the upper portion of a bed of regenerated catalyst with the mix ratio controlled as a function of the amount of primary regeneration gas introduced to a lower portion of the bed of regenerated catalyst.
