  • Patent number: 9670075
Abstract: A system and process for nitrate reduction from a water source. The process includes the steps of passing nitrate contaminated water through a strong acid cation exchange resin to reduce cations. The effluent is thereafter passed through a weak base anion exchange resin in order to reduce nitrate content. The strong acid cation exchange resin is regenerated, and the weak base anion exchange resin is also regenerated.

  • Patent number: 7562664
Abstract: Several products and processes for preventing the occurrence of rust stains resulting from irrigation systems using water having iron ions, such as well water, and for cleaning off rust stains resulting from the use of said irrigation systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, ammonium sulfate is mixed with well water and then this mixture is mixed with incoming well water being sprayed on the surfaces. In another embodiment, ammonium bisulfate is used for the removal of rust stains. Then ammonium sulfate is mixed with the incoming well water being sprayed in the next cycle, to prevent rust formation.

  • Publication number: 20080060978
Abstract: A method and system for handling tar sands and extracting bitumen or oil from the tar sands. The method includes the steps of depositing tar sands in a hopper assembly having a conical bottom. An organic solvent mixture is sprayed on the tar sands through a series of jets near the walls of the hopper. The oil or bitumen in the tar sands is dissolved by the organic solvent mixture. Sand from the tar sands is allowed to separate and fall toward the bottom of the hopper assembly. The sands and liquid in a slurry of fluid are transported from the hopper assembly to a rinse chamber. The slurry of fluid is delivered into the top of the rinse chamber tangentially to cause cyclonic action of the slurry in the rinsing chamber. Solvent introduced at the bottom of the rinse chamber and the solvent mixture is drawn from the top of the rinse chamber. Thereafter, the solvent and hydrocarbon liquid mixture is pumped to a separator in order to separate the oil and bitumen from the solvent.

  • Patent number: 7108792
Abstract: Agents are used as cleaning agents and also as agents to purify the water in water treatment plants. The agents are a mixture of phosphates and fatty acid salts. Precipitation agents are used such as, polyvalent metals. The pH is adjusted. Flocking agents can be used to increase the rate of separation. The purified water is removed after precipitation.

  • Publication number: 20060081503
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for continuously or substantially continuously separating particulate matter based on particle size and/or density of the matter. The system includes a separation chamber having a bottom portion disposed within a cavity of a rotatable bowl having fluid therein, preferably water. The internal cavity of the separation chamber is maintained under negative pressure such that fluid is drawn through the separation chamber at a predetermined velocity to separate the solids. Larger, dewatered and/or denser solids are directed to the cavity of the rotatable bowl and can be removed by rotation of the bowl while the smaller and/or less dense solids and fluid travel up through the separation chamber.

  • Publication number: 20050194319
Abstract: An ion exchange process for treating waste water having caustic materials, uses a bed of cation exchange resin beads to which the waste water is added. Thereafter the bed of beads is allowed to absorb the caustic materials in a brine until the resin is exhausted. The bed having retained organic matter is regenerated by rinsing the bed with water to remove substantially all the organic matter; draining any remaining rinse water; adding water and allowing it to pass through the bed and exit therefrom; mixing the exiting water with acid to form a dilute acid; and adding this dilute acid to the bed until the water exiting the bed has substantially the same pH as the dilute acid entering the bed.

  • Publication number: 20050189301
Abstract: The removal of oils, fats, and proteins from various industrial process streams containing these materials; such as dairy, cheese, whey, meat, fish, and vegetable process streams is accomplished by adding a mixture of sulfuric or phosphoric acid with calcium or magnesium phosphate or sulfate to the waste water to adjust the pH of the waste water to less than 7; and then separating the resulting solids from the liquid in the waste water; and adjusting the pH of the solids and liquid to make them acceptable waste products having a pH of 6-9.

  • Patent number: 6851988
Abstract: In a battery post burning apparatus, the majority of the heat is supplied to the lead via the mold in which the finished post is being formed. The mold material in contact with the lead has a low thermal mass and high electrical and thermal resistance. The mold material may be Meehanite cast iron. Another material, such as titanium, may be used. If so, it is preferable to coat it with silver solder and provide a copper insert, where the electrical and thermal connection is being made. In another embodiment, a magnetic field is provided to break up any oxide coatings on the mold surfaces.
