    Abstract: A cost effective and reliable automatic balancer for high speed applications reduces the impact of unbalanced rotary tools and other devices. The automatic balancer provides a housing within which is defined a race. The race is accessible through a lid which removably covers one side of the race, allowing access to this cavity. A curved section of the race has a radius somewhat greater than that of a spherical compensating mass. The osculation region, where the compensating mass and curved section of the race meet, is carefully sized so that the surface area of contact is sufficient to prevent undue wear on the race, yet not so extensive at to result in excessive frictional contact between the compensating mass and the race. A lubricating fluid, filling at least a portion of the race, passes the compensating mass easily, due to the relative sizes of the compensating mass, the cross-sectional area of the race and the size of the osculation.

    Abstract: A sawblade apparatus includes a sawblade and an arbor. The arbor which is adapted to have the sawblade mounted thereon possesses a plurality of outer drive surfaces circumferentially spaced about the outer periphery of the arbor. The sawblade is provided with a centrally located mounting hole that is bounded by a plurality of inner driven surfaces circumferentially spaced about the mounting hole for operatively engaging the outer drive surfaces on the arbor when the arbor is rotatably driven so that rotation of the arbor results in rotation of the sawblade in a rotational direction. The inner driven surfaces operatively engage the outer drive surfaces at respective interfaces to produce an interface force during operation of the sawing apparatus. The mounting hole in the sawblade has an inner diameter that is greater than the outer diameter of the arbor so that during a cutting operation the outer peripheral surface of the arbor is spaced from the inner peripheral surface of the mounting hole in the sawblade.

    Abstract: A speed dependent response control balancing device of the present invention provides control of vibrations in a rotatable member such as a rotatable basket of a washing machine. The balancing device has two compartments including an annular ball race and a reservoir. A plurality of balls are positioned within the annular ball race and move within the ball race to counteract the imbalance of the basket. A varying amount of viscous fluid is delivered from the reservoir into the ball race depending on a rotational speed of the balancing device. Accordingly, the reaction or "quickness" of the response of the balls within the ball race changes with the rotational speed of the balancing device to provide quick response during a start-up period and slower response at high rotational speeds.

    Abstract: A sawblade and a drive spline having a drive configuration therebetween. The drive configuration comprises inner driven surfaces on the sawblade which are driven by the drive spline which has outer drive recesses complementary to the inner driven surfaces of the sawblade. First and second radials extend outwardly from the axis of rotation of the drive spline and sawblade. They extend so as to contact the ends of a respective recess or drive surface most closely located to the axis of rotation. Second and third radials extend to contact the ends of the most remotely located recess or drive surface. The angular distance between the first and second radials is greater than the angular distance between the third and fourth radials.

The baffle plate (20) extends transversely relative to the flow path for forming at least a partial barrier to fluid flow in the flow path. A gas outlet, e.g., a chimney stack (18), is located on the container (12) for the discharge of gas separated from the fluid. A burner (46) is provided for the combustion of combustible gas passing through the outlet (18). A holding tank (201) may be provided for holding the fluid following passage through the flare tank. In addition, safety features (240, 244, 250, 206) can be provided to prevent or disable the explosion or rupture of the holding tank (201).

    Abstract: A torsional and translational vibration removing device or balancer includes the combination of at least one annular torsional vibration damping mass and a plurality of translational vibration compensating masses. The annular torsional vibration damping mass can be positioned within an annular groove in a housing so as to be capable of freely rotating during rotation of the balancer. The annular torsional vibration damping mass can also be provided with an annular groove that receives the translational vibration compensating masses. The compensating masses are free to rotate within the annular groove in the torsional vibration damping mass so that during rotation of the balancer, the compensating masses move within the annular groove of the damping mass to assume a position which reduces translational vibration while the torsional vibration damping mass rotates to reduce torsional vibration.

The plurality of races can include a first race having a particular cross-sectional shape and a second race having a different cross-sectional shape so that shear forces exerted on the weights in each race during rotation of the rotating member are different. The balancing arrangement can also be constructed so that the weight of the weights in one of the races is different from the weight of the weights in the other race. In addition, more than two races can be employed and the races can be disposed in a common plane or in axially displaced positions with respect to one another.
