  • Patent number: 8987375
Abstract: A moisture-curable polyurethane formulation is provided capable of curing to form a reaction product, having high green strength and being dispensable from a caulking gun. The polyurethane formulation comprises at least one isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, at least one rheology modifier or filler, optionally monomeric/polymeric isocyanate, and at least one urea-based thixotropic additive added to the formulation or formed in situ, to provide greater than 1% of urea groups in the reaction product. A method for making a moisture-curable polyurethane formulation capable of curing to form a reaction product and methods of bonding materials together using the formulation are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8968782
Abstract: The present invention relates to relates to combination degradable and non-degradable matrices and related methods. In an embodiment, the invention includes an active agent delivery matrix including a degradable polymer network, a non-degradable polymer network, the non-degradable polymer network interspersed within the degradable polymer network, and an active agent. In an embodiment, the invention includes an active agent elution control matrix including a degradable polymer; and a non-degradable polymer interspersed with the degradable polymer. In an embodiment, the invention includes a method of making an active agent delivery matrix including mixing a degradable polymer with a first solvent to form a degradable polymer solution; mixing a non-degradable polymer with a second solvent to form a non-degradable polymer solution; and simultaneously depositing the degradable polymer solution and the non-degradable polymer solution onto a substrate.

  • Patent number: 8381735
Abstract: A patient's obstructive sleep apnea is treated by identifying a patient with sleep apnea attributable at least in part to movement of a base of a tongue of the patient toward a pharyngeal wall of the patient. The tongue is stiffened by an implant sized to be placed within the tongue. A distal portion of the implant is sized to extend within the tongue from a first end near a mandibular-geniohyoid interface to a second end near a base of the tongue. A proximal portion is attached to the first end and adapted to be secured to a jaw bone of the patient following a period of healing after placement of the implant in the tongue.
