Abstract: A system and method for the validation of devices (preferably device addresses) in an enterprise environment is provided. In one embodiment, a host agent of an enterprise environment queries the storage device(s) embedded in or communicatively coupled to a host system associated with the agent for device identification information. Preferably, the host agent then compares the returned information to some or all of the information stored for the queried device(s) at the host system, which preferably includes address information. If for a device, the stored information matches the returned information, the address information for the device stored at the host system is accepted as valid. In at least one embodiment, additional validation steps are performed before the address information is accepted as valid. If, on the other hand, the information does not match, the host agent(s) flags the stored information as invalid and corrective action is taken.
