Abstract: A method of controlling a timer in a User Equipment (UE) is provided. The method includes determining, by a controller in the UE, whether a current international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) matches a stored IMSI if the UE is powered ON, activating, by the controller, the timer if the current IMSI matches the stored IMSI; and stopping the timer if the current IMSI does not match the stored IMSI.

Abstract: A method for connecting to a Registered Public Land Mobile Network (RPLMN) after receiving an accept message with limited service from a user selected CSG cell, which is associated to a different PLMN than the RPLMN during manual CSG selection mode is disclosed. The method includes connecting to the RPLMN based on the availability of the user selected CSG cell in UTRAN. If the user selected CSG cell is not available in UTRAN, then the method includes connecting to the RPLMN by the UE using the stored duplicate value of the RPLMN. If the user selected CSG cell is available in UTRAN, then the method includes sending an ATTACH request to the user selected CSG cell without disabling the EUTRA capabilities. If the ATTACH request is failed, then the method includes connecting to the RPLMN using the stored duplicate value of the RPLMN.

Abstract: A method and system for enabling a User Equipment (UE) to quickly recover back to normal service on failure of registration attempt to a selected Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) cell or loss of coverage of the selected CSG cell is provided. The method provides a UE behavior during manual CSG selection mode when the selected CSG cell is associated with a different Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) than the Registered PLMN (RPLMN) of the UE. The method also defines the UE actions to handle a user request to change a current Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) selection mode and handle expiry of a Home PLMN (HPLMN) timer in the UE, when the UE is attached to the selected CSG cell in the manual CSG selection mode.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that prevent a user equipment (UE) from entering into a permanent out of service (OOS) state. The UE receives a registration reject message associated with a permanent cause when the UE triggers a registration request for registering with a first network entity. It is determined whether the UE was previously registered with a second network entity upon receiving the registration reject message associated with the permanent cause. The UE stores a network entity identifier of the first network entity in a temporary forbidden list when the UE was previously registered with the second network entity, to prevent the UE from entering into the permanent OOS state.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for scanning Radio Access Technology (RAT) of a User Equipment (UE) registered in a first cell in a cellular communication network is provided. The method includes performing a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) procedure for establishing a call, disabling, if the NAS procedure fails, capability of the UE to connect to the first cell, checking information relating to neighboring cells in the network, and selecting at least one RAT included in the information relating to the neighboring cells, and scanning a second cell operating in the at least one RAT based on the information relating to the neighboring cells.

Abstract: A method of reducing delay in Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) in a Radio Access Technology (RAT) communications network. The method includes initiating, by a terminal, a combined attach procedure by sending an attach request message to the RAT communications network, receiving, by the terminal, an attach accept message along with Location Area Identification (LAI) information from the network in response to the attach request message, checking, by the terminal, network identifier information in a RAT information table based on the received LAI, and selecting a mobile network based on the network identifier information to trigger establishment of a circuit-switched call.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method of selecting Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMNs) in a manual PLMN selection mode are provided. The method includes selecting a PLMN as a network that the terminal will be attached to in a manual PLMN selection mode, storing the selected PLMN in a user selection PLMN list, and selecting, when the terminal attempts recovery to receive normal services in a limited service state, a PLMN to be attached to a network based on at least one PLMN included in the stored user selection PLMN list.

Abstract: A method and system for minimizing delay in circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) procedure is disclosed. The disclosed method provides two different approaches for optimizing the delay during the CSFB procedure. In the first approach, user equipment (UE) receives a Location Area Identifier (LAD along with the Radio Access Technology (RAT) information from the network (LTE network). The UE uses the received RAT information from the network for switching to the target Radio Access Network (RAN) without intimating to the LTE network. In another approach, the UE obtains the RAT information by performing a background scan in idle mode, when the UE receives LAI without RAT information from the network.

Abstract: A method and user equipment for handling a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) selection in a mobile communication network is provided. The method includes obtaining, by a User Equipment (UE), a PLMN list of one or more Radio Access Technologies (RATs) comprising a list of available PLMNs, when the UE performs a Manual Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) selection, initiating a PLMN list validation timer, and reusing the previously obtained PLMN list, when at least one predefined event is triggered and the PLMN list validation timer is running. The at least one predefined event comprises at least one of Home Public Land Mobile Network (HPLMN) timer expiration, a manual PLMN selection, the manual CSG selection, and autonomous CSG selection.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for processing a Circuit-Switched (CS) call by User Equipment (UE) that is camped on a CSG cell, when a manually selected CSG cell is in a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN), which is different from a Registered PLMN (RPLMN). The method includes registering, by the UE, with a manually selected Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) cell of a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN), which is different from a Registered PLMN (RPLMN) of the UE; detecting the CS call; and processing the CS call in a non-CSG cell, when the manually selected CSG cell is unable to process the CS call.

Abstract: The various embodiments herein provide a method and system for optimizing Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) selection in wireless communication. The method comprising steps of initiating, by a user equipment (UE), a manual CSG selection, verifying if a manual CSG selection request is new, storing a registered public land mobile network (RPLMN) and a corresponding public land mobile network (PLMN) Selection mode if the CSG selection request is new, changing a PLMN selection mode and the CSG selection mode to MANUAL, registering the UE on to a user selected CSG cell, storing one or more parameters associated with the user selected CSG cell if the registration is successful irrespective of CSG cell belonging to RPLMN or different PLMN and selecting the user selected CSG cell using a stored PLMN ID and a CSG ID combination in the current PLMN selection mode during power off and power on.
