Patent number: 9715394Abstract: Methods and a computer program product for providing a user interface including earlier versions of data. In one implementation, a method is provided. The method includes receiving, while a current view is displayed in a user interface, a first user input requesting that a backup interface be displayed. In response to the first user input, the transition from displaying the current view in the user interface to displaying the backup interface is animated. The backup interface is displayed including a display area for presenting at least a first visual representation of an earlier version of the current view, where the earlier version includes a first element. While the backup interface is displayed, a second user input is received requesting that the current view be modified according to the earlier version. In response to the second user input, the current view is modified according to the earlier version.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2012Date of Patent: July 25, 2017Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Pavel Cisler, Mike Matas, Marcel M W A van Os, Gregory N. Patent number: 9665594Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for storing data. In one aspect, a method includes detecting at a kernel a plurality of operations, each of a particular type from a plurality of types, to be performed on a respective data item; and generating respective entries in a delta store in response to the detected plurality of operations wherein each entry for a data item includes a marker attribute corresponding to the operation type of the plurality of types.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Dominic B. Patent number: 9542423Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for storing data are disclosed. In some implementations, visual representations of files are generated for presentation in a backup user interface. The visual representations are generated from sparse file system metadata stored on the computing device, thus allowing faster navigating of the backup user interface. During a restore operation, the metadata can be used to retrieve the items from their physical storage locations. In some implementations, when the storage capacity of a backup storage device exceeds a threshold, the data for the N oldest backups are replaced with sparse file system metadata, which can be used to generate visual representations for presentation in the backup user interface.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Christopher Wolf, Daniel I. Feldman, Eric A. Weiss, Kristen A. McIntyre, Pavel Cisler, Richard B. Blair, Erika Misaki

Publication number: 20160314135Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for file system management. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a request at a kernel to perform a file operation on a particular file; identifying a flag bit associated with the file; invoking user space file handler to perform particular action when the flag bit is set; determining whether notification that action has been performed by file handler is received; and allowing the file operation on the file when notification is received.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2016Publication date: October 27, 2016Inventors: Dominic B. GIAMPAOLO, Pavel CISLER, Eric A. WEISS, Kristen A. MCINTYRE

Patent number: 9460096Abstract: Systems and methods for managing data, such as metadata. In one exemplary method, metadata from files created by several different software applications are captured, and the captured metadata is searched. The type of information in metadata for one type of file differs from the type of information in metadata for another type of file. Other methods are described and data processing systems and machine readable media are also described.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Yan Arrouye, Dominic Giampaolo, Bas Ording, Gregory Christie, Stephen Olivier Lemay, Marcel van Os, Imran Chaudhri, Kevin Tiene, Pavel Cisler, Vincenzo De Marco

Patent number: 9454587Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for searching for and presenting backups. A first search result including a first version of an item is presented. The first version is associated with a first date range having a first start date and a first end date. User input requesting that an archive including one or more versions of the item be searched is received. A second search result including a second version of the item is presented. The second version is different from the first version. The second version is associated with a second date range having a second start date and a second end date. The second date range does not overlap with the first date range.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2014Date of Patent: September 27, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: David Lyons, Eric Weiss, Pavel Cisler, Peter McInerney, John Hornkvist
