Abstract: A seal arrangement is described for providing a seal between a rotatable shaft and a housing having a wall through which the shaft extends. The seal arrangement includes, in series, a mechanical seal and a gland seal. The mechanical seal is positioned axially inwardly of the gland seal such that the mechanical seal forms a first stage or primary seal and the gland seal forms a secondary seal.

Abstract: A rotary part being an impeller or expeller for a pump which can be rotated in a forward direction about a rotation axis X-X. The rotary part comprises a shroud having an outer peripheral edge portion and opposed first, and second faces, a plurality of expelling vanes projecting from one or more of the second faces of the shroud, each expelling vane having an inner side and an outer side which is at or near the outer peripheral edge portion of the shroud, the expelling vanes extending in a direction between the rotation axis X-X towards the outer peripheral edge portion of the shroud, each expelling vane further including a leading side facing in the forward direction and having an inner edge and an outer edge, a trailing side facing in a rearward direction and an up per side spaced from the outer face of the shroud.

The impeller includes a shroud (42) having front and rear faces (43, 44) with a plurality of pumping vanes (46). A collection chamber (60) is provided at the rear side of the pump casing in fluid communication with the pumping chamber. The impeller includes one or more passageways (52) through the shroud, one end opening into the collection chamber and the other opening into the pumping chamber through the impeller front face. A flow inducer (70, 72) is within the collection chamber, which includes a venting outlet (62) and a transfer outlet zone in fluid communication with the outer region of the pumping chamber.
