  • Publication number: 20190195122
Abstract: A turbocharger includes a compressor and an airflow adjustment assembly. The airflow adjustment assembly includes a plurality of guide vanes. Each of the plurality of guide vanes has a guide tip and a guide base spaced from the guide tip along an axis. The guide tips define a vane diameter (VD) less than the inlet diameter (ID) and perpendicular to the axis. The airflow adjustment assembly further includes a sliding ring and a plurality of connecting rods. The sliding ring is configured to be axially movable along the axis. Additionally, the plurality of connecting rods are axially moveable along the axis when the sliding ring moves axially along the axis, thereby selectively increasing and/or decreasing the vane diameter (VD) when the sliding ring moves axially along the axis.

  • Publication number: 20180274551
Abstract: A forced induction device includes a compressor wheel, a housing, and an intake insert. The compressor wheel has an inducer diameter and an exducer diameter. The housing includes a housing cover member having a central portion and a housing intake portion extending from the central portion. The central portion defines a compressor cavity in which the compressor wheel rotates and having a cavity inlet diameter larger than the inducer diameter. The intake insert defines a conduit extending therethrough from a proximal end to a distal end of the intake insert. The proximal end is received by the housing intake portion with the conduit in fluidic communication with the compressor cavity. At the proximal end, the conduit the conduit has a proximal inner diameter that is less than cavity inlet diameter and the inducer diameter, and the distal end is configured to connect to a coupling portion of an air source.

  • Publication number: 20180156067
Abstract: A turbocharger includes a turbine wheel, a compressor wheel, and a shaft coupled to the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel. The turbocharger additionally includes a bearing housing containing a thrust bearing through which the shaft extends. The bearing housing receives oil and drains the oil therefrom. The bearing housing includes a reservoir that maintains a retained portion of the oil received in the bearing housing after the oil is drained from the bearing housing. The retained portion of the oil lubricates the thrust bearing.

  • Publication number: 20150159547
Abstract: A turbocharger (10) with a cross flow turbine (30) where exhaust gas passes through a cross flow turbine wheel (18) on its outer diameter. A cross flow turbine (30) has radial exhaust gas inlet and outlet. Cross flow turbines (30) are suited for variable turbine geometry, including with a single guide vane (44) or multiple guide vanes in the turbine inlet (34) to control variable flow and thus performance of the turbine stage. Cross flow turbines (30) allow reduced size and excellent packaging options, such as a single or dual cross flow turbine wheel (18) between two compressor wheels (12).
