Abstract: A system and method for switching input modes is disclosed that includes receiving an input signal from an input device and determining whether the input signal is a data signal or a command signal. A present value of a counter is also determined if the input signal is a data signal. If the present value of the counter is not greater than zero, an output signal having a first value type is produced. If the present value of the counter is greater than zero, then the present value of the counter is decremented and an output signal having a second value type is produced. Additional aspects of the present invention relate to input devices utilized in switching between the input modes.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed to obtain information regarding an installed hardware device, whether or not the device is attached to the computer system. In a described implementation, a method includes collecting information regarding an installed device on a computing device. The information is presented (e.g., to an end-user with local access to the computing device). The installed device does not have to be attached to the computing device and no booting into a special mode (e.g., a troubleshooting mode) is required. The information may also be modified in response to a modification request (e.g., provided by an end-user through a graphical user interface). Furthermore, the information presented may include all data available to the operating system regarding the installed device.
