  • Patent number: 6540768
Abstract: A removable vascular filter system for blocking micro- and macro-emboli while allowing the continued perfusion of blood comprises a filter membrane positioned on a guidewire, wherein a free end of the membrane sits tightly against the guidewire when the filter membrane is in a collapsed state and wherein the filter has a means for deploying the filter membrane to assume a position substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the guidewire. The filter membrane is comprised of a fine mesh material which has a pore size capable of blocking emboli while allowing continued blood flow, a preferred embodiment of which comprises regularly spaced, laser-formed holes, and in which the membrane has a scalloped proximal profile.

  • Patent number: 5634902
Abstract: A balloon dilatation catheter defines a side aperture defined in the catheter shaft between the ends of the catheter and communicating between the guidewire lumen and the catheter exterior. A removable support mandrin may occupy a proximal lumen of the catheter. The mandrin may define a distal tip portion which is positioned preferably closely proximal to the aperture. The distal tip portion may have a reduced diameter relative to the average diameter of portions of the mandrin which are proximal to the tip portion, for providing mandrin tip flexibility. Also, a catheter-stiffening bridge member may be positioned within and permanently secured to the catheter adjacent to the aperture portion, to reduce catheter kinking adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 5598844
Abstract: A guidewire receiving lumen flushing device for use with a "monorail" or "rapid exchange" balloon catheter including a distal portion having a guidewire receiving lumen, an outer lumen and a balloon. The guidewire receiving lumen of the catheter has a first opening at a distal end of the catheter and a second opening located proximally of the first opening. The outer lumen of the catheter is generally parallel with the guidewire receiving lumen of the catheter and the balloon communicates with the outer lumen of the catheter for inflating the balloon. The guidewire receiving lumen flushing device comprises a flushing luer and a forming tube integrally formed with the flushing luer. The integrally formed flushing luer and forming tube have a passageway therethrough and the passageway has a first portion in the flushing luer and a second, smaller portion in the forming tube.
