  • Publication number: 20050044053
Abstract: There is provided a method for classifying, identifying or verifying an object by representing the object by a respective sequence of vectors, modeling the sequence of vectors with a respective generative model such that the object is represented by the generative model, computing the distances between the generative models to form one or many kernel matrices based on the distance metric, and using the kernel matrices to classify, identify or verify the object.

  • Patent number: 6816743
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for analyzing the chemical composition of vulnerable plaques with an intravascular catheter having a near-infrared light source, a fiber-optic probe, a mechanism for directing the light from the light source into a blood vessel, and detectors for detecting light reflected or scattered by the tissue. The light source may be a tunable laser, and may transmit an incident beam having a wavelength ranging from 1400 to 4100 nm. A computer may be included to receive and process the spectral data in the analysis of the vulnerable plaques. A catheter system may be configured to provide near-IR spectrometric imaging of arteries to non-destructively locate and determine lipid pool and fibrous cap size and composition. Additionally, mediators and cellular components may be also determined that are typically associated with vulnerable plaques which have an increased risk of rupture.

  • Publication number: 20030187643
Abstract: A speech recognition system provides a subword decoder and a dictionary lookup to process a spoken input. In a first stage of processing, the subword decoder decodes the speech input based on subword units or particles and identifies hypothesized subword sequences using a particle dictionary and particle language model, but independently of a word dictionary or word vocabulary. Further stages of processing involve a particle to word graph expander and a word decoder. The particle to word graph expander expands the subword representation produced by the subword decoder into a word graph of word candidates using a word dictionary. The word decoder uses the word dictionary and a word language model to determine a best sequence of word candidates from the word graph that is most likely to match the words of the spoken input.

  • Patent number: 6442518
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for refining time alignments of closed captions. The method automatically aligns closed caption data with associated audio data such that the closed caption data can be more precisely indexed to a requested keyword by a search engine. Further, with such a structure, the closed captions can be made to appear and disappear on a display screen in direct relation to the associated spoken words and phrases. Accordingly, hearing impaired viewers can more easily understand the program that is being displayed.

  • Patent number: 6195913
Abstract: A drying tunnel applicable to products of fruits and vegetables for drying, using ambient temperature dry air. The tunnel has an outer casing fitted with two independent stories which has openings at the ends of the upper floor, which crossed inside in an upward direction by a conveyor belt which is in turn crossed in a counterflow direction by a particular flow of drying air at ambient temperature. Humidity of the products is absorbed by traveling along the conveyor belt which passes through the upper flow. The upper floor is blown by fans treated by air passing through a refrigeration evaporator, condenser, and compressor located on the upper floor. Air curtains are at the tunnel openings to minimize escaping air. Air filters are included to eliminate suspended particles from the product surface.
