  • Publication number: 20050078487
Abstract: A plate (1), in particular a motor vehicle licence plate, comprises a casing (3) including a rear wall (4) and an edge portion (5) which surrounds that rear wall (4) and which projects forwardly and which extends around a light transmission opening (7) through which a flat symbol carrier extending in parallel relationship with the rear wall (4) of the casing is visible, wherein provided for illumination between the rear wall (4) and the symbol carrier is an electrically activatable light film (14) which transilluminates at least the regions of high transparency of the symbol carrier from the rear. To achieve reflection properties arranged in front of the light film and in parallel relationship therewith is a reflection film (15) which is at least region-wise transparent for the light coming from the rear from the light film and which reflects extraneous light which impinges thereon from the outside through the light transmission opening.

  • Publication number: 20040136198
Abstract: A vehicle lamp as for a motor vehicle includes a housing with a light exit opening closed by an elongate light cover. At least one light emitting diode is arranged in the housing laterally of the light cover, its main emission direction being substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the light cover. Light from the diode in the main emission direction is coupled into a light guide and is at least partially coupled out transversely with respect to said main emission direction towards the light cover. A reflector arrangement which extends at least on the side of the light guide in opposite relationship to the light cover reflects towards the light cover light coupled out therefrom in other directions than towards the light cover. The reflector arrangement includes a good heat-conducting material and is in good heat-conducting relationship with the diode to dissipate heat therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6698118
Abstract: A plate such as a motor vehicle licence plate comprises a casing which includes a flat rear wall surrounded by a forwardly projecting edge defining a light transmission opening, through which a flat symbol carrier extending parallel to the rear wall of the casing is visible. The symbol carrier has regions of differing transparency to represent symbols thereon. An electrically activatable light film between the rear wall and the symbol carrier shines light through the symbol carrier from the rear. To provide retroreflective properties, arranged in front of the light film and parallel thereto is a film which extends at least over considerable parts of the area of the light transmission opening and which is at least partially transparent for the light from the rear and which is retroreflective for light impinging thereon from the exterior. A light cover which is transparent at least in region-wise manner closes the light transmission opening.
