Abstract: This invention relates to a digital pet software product, which comprises a storage unit and a digital pet program stored in the storage unit. The digital pet program is configured to be installed in a portable electronic device. When the portable electronic device executes the digital pet program, the portable electronic device performs a plurality of operations. The operations comprise generating a digital pet displayed on a display unit of the portable electronic device; and obtaining a geographic position that is variable. The geographic position of the digital pet represents a current position where the digital pet is in a real environment.

Abstract: A network backup/recovery system is provided which can perform backup operation and/or recovery operation in a computer system, so as to backup data and system configurations and/or recover from a system crash, which can also minimize time consumption and cost. A network backup/recovery system backs up data and immediately returns a storage device to a preceding state. The network backup/recovery system comprises a client management part for controlling at least one client and a server management part for controlling a server and monitoring each using condition of the clients. The server management part sends a predetermined message to the client management part according to each using condition of the clients; and the client management part involves implementing a predetermined backup/recovery procedure according to the received predetermined message.

Abstract: A fast data write method for transferring data from a computer system to a storage system in a single tasking operating environment. A fast write flag is set in order to reflect the ready or busy state of the storage system. A processor of the computer system ends the storage data write cycle as soon as the data has been sent to the storage system. Thus, the processor does not waste any processor time after the data is sent, and transfers are made without compromising integrity of the data.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for protection against attack by computer virus. Detection and prevention of a virus attack at boot time is achieved by write-protecting the storage devices of the system before the booting process and by detecting the presence of virus by checking integrity of the interrupt vectors of the system. Similar checks may be run on the system modules, device drivers, and application programs, using, for example, a checksum to insure that no further viruses are present in those programs.
