  • Patent number: 4958444
Abstract: An apparatus for drying a fibre web (4), wherein the web (4) is dired in at least two successive drying zones between a heated band (1b, 1d) and a cooled band (1a, 1c) moving substantially in parallel with and at equal speed as the web (4), the bands being endless and air-tight and having good thermal conductivity. In order to shorten the apparatus and to save energy, it comprises several drying zones positioned on top of each other in a direction transverse to the surface of the web (4), whereby the web (4) moves in opposite directions in drying zones positioned immediately on top of each other. Further, the endless band (1b, 1c) positioned between two drying zones positioned on top of each other forms one of the drying elements in both drying zones, whereby the same cooling or heating means (8, 9) positioned within the band (1b, 1c) between the rolls (2b, 3b; 2c, 3c) can cool or heat the web sections positioned within the length of both drying zones.

  • Patent number: 4787641
Abstract: An arrangement for sealing a chamber containing pressure medium against a movable band. The band is arranged to form one side of the chamber. The arrangement comprises a sealing framework which is fastened to a body part of the chamber by means of a resilient membrane. The sealing framework is further provided with a sealing means for providing a sealing effect between the movable band and the rest of the chamber. The sealing means is thereby arranged to be pressed against the band by the pressure effect of a load medium fed on one side of the resilient membrane. In order to obtain an effective and adaptable sealing effect, the means for providing the sealing effect is formed by at least two sealing elements arranged in parallel and between which a sealing liquid is provided.

  • Patent number: 4539075
Abstract: Perforated sheet for a head box of a paper machine, the perforated sheet being provided with a number of parallel flow passages starting from a common front face. The perforated sheet is provided with a set of feeding ducts which can be connected to a source of flushing liquid and which is connected, by means of flushing ducts, to the front face of the perforated sheet. The perforated sheet preferably consists of several rod elements, each of which is provided with a flow passage and which have been assembled as parallel to each other, side by side and one above the other, into an integrated package.

  • Patent number: 4484982
Abstract: An extended nip press for a paper machine for removing water from a wet fibrous or porous web. The press comprises two parallel, rotating press rolls which are pressed against each other and form therebetween a press nip through which a web to be dried passes together with at least one drier felt. At least one of the press rolls is provided with a hard support cylinder and a flexibly compressible shell layer surrounding said cylinder so that the press nip forms an extended press zone. In order to equalize the pressure and the temperature in the press zone, the shell layer is provided with a flexible layer formed by at least one liquid-filled cavity and a gas-filled cell disposed in the cavity, said flexible layer surrounding the support cylinder at least corresponding to the width of the web.

  • Patent number: 4482430
Abstract: An extended nip press for a paper machine for removing water from a wet paper, cardboard or similar fibrous or porous web. The press comprises a rotating press roll and at least one stationary loading shoe as well as a band impermeable to a medium and movable between said press roll and loading shoe. The loading shoe is provided with a sliding surface against which the press roll is pressed through the band for forming an extended press zone. A paper web to be dried is passed through the press zone together with a felt for receiving water. The band is made compressible, and in its surface facing the sliding surface are formed a plurality of separated recesses into which a lubricating medium is sprayed.

  • Patent number: 4173249
Abstract: An extended nip press for a paper machine for removing water from a fiber web carried by a porous felt through a press zone in which the web is subjected to a pressure action. The press comprises press rolls forming at least two separate press nips and a sealing element positioned between the second rolls forming the press nips. The web, the felt and a band supporting the web and felt is passed through the press nips. A pressure medium chamber is limited by that part of the band which extends between the press nips, by the secondary rolls and the sealing element for subjecting the web to the pressure action. The press nips form rolling seals between the secondary rolls and the band.
