  • Patent number: 8050349
Abstract: The present invention, generally speaking, provides interleavers and methods of interleaving that satisfy the need for backward compatibility while effectively addressing competing design objectives. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, data is transmitted using a number of transmit antennas greater than an expected number of receive antennas. At least one pair of transmit antennas (ant?—1, ant?_N) is formed, and multiple second data streams (610a, 610u) are formed from a first data stream, successive bits in said first data stream being assigned to different ones of said second data streams. Block interleaving of multiple respective ones of said second data streams is individually performed (611a, 611u). During successive transmission intervals (617), the pair of transmit antennas is used to transmit a pair of data symbols taken from different ones of said second data streams, followed by an equivalent transformed pair of data symbols.

  • Patent number: 7724834
Abstract: A system and method for a simplified Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding (203) for MIMO systems is provided. The full ML decoding gives the lower bound of the decoding for CC coded MIMO systems. However, the computation cost is too high to be implemented in real system. Many alternative methods have been proposed for the decoding. Among them, weighted Zero Forcing (WZF) is one that can give affordable performance with reasonable computation complexity but there are several dB of performance gap for the WZF decoding and ML decoding. This present invention discloses a decoding system and method having improved performance over WZF decoding with affordable implementation complexity.

  • Publication number: 20080049654
Abstract: Method, frame definitions (300 400 500 700 800 1000 1200 1300 1400) and system for transmission of an aggregation of packets which includes a plurality of Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Units (MPDUs) or PLCP (Physical Layer Convergence Protocol) Protocol Data Units (PPDUs) intended for one or several receivers and transmitted at one or several different Physical (PHY) rates. In some aspects of the invention, a pre-amble, rsp. mid-amble (415.i 515.i 715.i 815.i 1015.i 1215.i 1315.i) is transmitted in-between each or between multiples of MPDUs or PPDUs allowing receiver devices to go into sleep mode and wake-up during the aggregate or packet burst. Furthermore, information is transmitted at the beginning of the aggregate/packet burst, which allows devices to deduce the position of MPDUs/PPDUs or multiples of MPDUs/PPDUs in the aggregate. MPDUs or PPDUs are grouped in order to enable efficient sleep times of the receiving devices.
