  • Patent number: 5230669
Abstract: A stepless transmission is provided with an input shaft (3004) having gear structure. A variator shaft (3014) including adjustable diameter pulleys (3018) and (3032) connected between the input shaft and the variator shaft. The variator alters the relative speeds of rotation between the input shaft and the variator shaft. An output shaft has gear structure (3054) that is operatively connected to the input shaft gear structure (3010) and the variator shaft gear structure (3042). The speed and direction of rotation of the output shaft (3048) is related to the difference between the tangential velocities of the input shaft gear structure and the variator shaft gear structure acting on the output shaft gear structure. Controls for the transmissions are also disclosed. The controls (3060) act to slow or speed the output of the transmission or to change the direction of the output.

  • Patent number: 5070563
Abstract: A device in the form of a ring for wearing on a finger bears a variety of implements including a magnetic pick-up for engaging ferromagnetic objects. It may include other tools such as screwdriver blades, line cutters, prying claws, glass cutters and the like for convenience in having certain useful tools at hand when needed without encumbering the hands of the user. The tools are arranged in a line along the circumference of the device. Also described is a set of magnets arranged in a particular configuration and polarity to unlock a magnetic lock.

  • Patent number: 5021037
Abstract: A stepless transmission and steering system is provided for a vehicle having at least two propelling elements such as wheels, tracks, propellers and the like driven by two output shafts. A housing contains a pair of planetary transmission gear sets, both driven by a common input shaft. Each gear set powers one of the output shafts. A separate variator is connected to each gear set. Each variator controls the speed and direction of rotation of its associated output shaft in a continuous, stepless fashion with a single control member. A neutral-seeking servo mechanism is provided. By turning both output shafts at the same speed and direction, the vehicle runs in a straight line. When one shaft is turned faster, the vehicle runs in a curved line. When each shaft is turned in opposite directions, the vehicle turns within its own length. The variators may include variable diameter pulleys coupled with endless belts.

  • Patent number: 4913003
Abstract: A stepless transmission is provided with an input shaft having gear structure. A variator shaft also has gear structure. A variator is connected between the input shaft and the variator shaft. The variator alters the relative speeds of rotation between the input shaft and the variator shaft. An output shaft has gear structure that is operatively connected to the input shaft gear structure and the variator shaft gear structure. The speed and direction of rotation of the output shaft is related to the difference between the tangential velocities of the input shaft gear structure and the variator shaft gear structure acting on the output shaft gear structure. Structure for increasing the rotational speed delivered from the input shaft to the variator can be provided. Reduction structure for gearing down the rotational speed of the variator shaft gear structure can also be provided. Controls for the transmissions are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4905335
Abstract: A device in the form of a ring for wearing on a finger, a bracelet for wearing on a wrist or a necklace for wearing on the neck bears a magnetic pick-up for engaging ferromagnetic objects. It may include other tools such as screwdriver blades, line cutters, prying claws and the like for convenience in having certain useful tools at hand when needed without encumbering the hands of the user.

  • Patent number: 4729261
Abstract: A stepless transmission including a fixed displacement rotary pump and an adjustable pressure compensated flow control valve which adjustably limits the output of the pump to any selected value between a predetermined maximum and a predetermined minimum whereat the pump housing and the pumping unit therein are locked against relative rotation. In the case of coaxial shafts fixed to the pump housing and pumping unit respectively, the driving shaft drives the driven shaft at the same speed less the speed corresponding to the adjusted limit of the pump even under varying load conditions on the driven shaft. In the case of an epicyclic train having input and output shafts fixed to selected gears of the train, the pump-valve assembly adjustably limits the speed of rotation of another gear of the train, thereby establishing a desired speed of the output shaft under varying load conditions.

  • Patent number: 4718508
Abstract: A driving and steering system for a vehicle having at least two propelling tracks or wheels driven by output shafts from within a housing containing respective planetary gear sets, each planetary gear set including a sun gear element, a planet gear-carrier element, and a ring gear element. A power-driven shaft between the planetary gear sets has driving engagement with both of the sun gear or the planet gear-carrier elements, and the respective output shafts are driven by the other one of the sun gear or planet gear-carrier elements. A steering shaft is operatively engaged with the ring gear elements to hold them against rotation for straight line propulsion of the vehicle or to rotate them in opposite directions for steering of the vehicle.
