  • Publication number: 20020015621
Abstract: A method for loading and unloading of solid substance (6) having high degree of water content of a bulk carrier (5) is disclosed. The bulk carrier (5) has one or more cargo holds (2) receiving the solid substance (6) and the solid substance (6) having such high degree of water content that a layer of liquid (7) is formed above the solid substance (6). The solid substance (6) is being discharged from each cargo hold (2) by means of a suitable pump (15) which is placed on a float (1) being freely moveable on the layer of liquid (7) in the cargo hold (2). The solid substance (6) and water are pumped out of the cargo hold (2) by a predetermined volumetric ratio and water is being fed into the cargo hold (2) by a volumetric rate which substantially correspond with the water rate that is being discharged.

  • Patent number: 6202274
Abstract: A mounting apparatus for a piston-cylinder arrangement (10,11) in a derrick (1) placed on a drill floor (2), which hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangement (10,11) is adapted to raise and lower a yoke (8) which travels on guide rails (7) in the derrick (1) itself, where the cylinder (20) is firmly held by a mounting apparatus (31) in relation to the drill floor (2). For the changing of gaskets (27) on the piston (21) and the cylinder (20), the cylinder is arranged so as to be lowerable in relation to the mounting thereof. The mounting apparatus (31) is designed to be releasable and comprises a flange (32) permanently mounted on the cylinder (20), a fixing device (37) in fixed position in relation to drill floor (2), a dividable locking ring (34), and a locking device (32) and the fixing device (37) and being firmly held in engagement with the aid of the locking device (38). A method of changing gaskets on a piston and cylinder is also described.

  • Patent number: 6148922
Abstract: A slide joint for a riser between a well and a floating petroleum installation such as an oil platform includes an outer pipe and an inner pipe which are adapted to move telescopically relative to one another to compensate for changes in the distance between the sea bed and the platform. The inner pipe is connected to a piston, which piston is responsive to actuation by hydraulic pressure in order to provide tractive force on the riser. The outer diameter of the inner pipe is adapted to the diameter of the outer pipe so as to form an annulus between the pipes. The piston is fixedly connected to the inner pipe at or near the downward oriented end thereof, said annulus above the piston being subjected to hydraulic pressure. Below the piston is provided a protective sleeve, which is slidably disposed within the outer pipe.

  • Patent number: 6095501
Abstract: An apparatus for a derrick, comprising two or more hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangements (10, 11) for raising and lowering a yoke (8) which travels on guide rails (7) in the derrick (1) itself, where two or more wire lines (13) are strung over sheaves (12) rotatably attached to the yoke. The wire lines (13) are attached at one end thereof to the top drive (9) and at the other end thereof are secured to an attachment point (14a, 14b) adjacent to a drill floor (2), said two or more wire lines being run in two sets (13a, 13b) of lines. The attachment points (14a, 14b) for each wire set are connected to a tension equalizer assembly to equalize differences in tension in the wire lines.

  • Patent number: 6094910
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for a derrick, including hydraulic piston/cylinder arrangements for raising and lowering a yoke travelling on guide rails attached to the derrick. A hydraulic system having different modes of operation is provided for the operation of the piston/cylinder arrangements. The hydraulic system can operate in a normal mode for raising or lowering the yoke and in other modes by interconnecting upper and lower chambers of the piston/cylinder arrangements and utilizing a differential surface area of the piston exposed to the two chambers for rapidly raising or lowering the yoke.

Two guide rails are disposed in parallel with the hydraulic piston/cylinder arrangements. A self-aligning yoke is connected between the upper ends of the hydraulic piston/cylinder arrangements and is raised and lowered along the two guide rails by the hydraulic piston/cylinder arrangements. The yoke comprises a beam with the two ends. An arm is connected to each end of the beam, extends obliquely upward from the beam, and terminates in a remote end rotatably connected to the upper ends of the hydraulic piston/cylinder arrangements. • Patent number: 4979356
Abstract: A torque wrench comprises a split casing which can be divided to receive and grip pipes, each casing half comprising jaws which are synchronously movable to center and frictionally engage the pipe joints. The wrench has a split inner annulus which is mounted in and connected to a split intermediate annulus which is rotatably mounted in the split casing. The inner annulus is provided with at least two activable and displaceable clamping jaws in use, temporary and external transfer of a controlled torque is provided to the intermediate annulus. The torque is, in turn, transferred to the inner annulus by the aid of a connection, preferably in the form of pump cylinders, which at the same time activate and provide the displaceable clamping jaws with the necessary power. With a spinning motor, the wrench forms a combined spinning and torque wrench. With a back-up wrench, and mounted on a carriage the wrench assembly forms a complete roughneck.
