  • Patent number: 4366212
Abstract: A non-aqueous cell containing a corrosive fluid cathode depolarizer such as thionyl chloride (SOCl.sub.2) and a metal cathode such as of cold rolled steel which is substantially corroded by said fluid depolarizer with the cell having improved high rate discharge characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 9, 1981
Date of Patent: December 28, 1982
    Assignee: Duracell International Inc.
Inventors: Arabinda N. Dey, William L. Bowden, Per Bro
  • Patent number: 4233372
Abstract: An hermetic glass-metal seal, for an electrochemical cell, having a metallic central feedthrough as a terminal thereof which is chemically incompatible with the components of said cell. The feedthrough is connected within said cell to a second compatible metallic element for electrical connection to an electrode within said cell. An inert polymeric material is sealed to the glass or outer metal member of the glass-metal seal and is sealed to and encloses the metallic feedthrough within said cell and the connection area between the feedthrough and said second metallic element.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1979
Date of Patent: November 11, 1980
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co. Inc.
    Inventors: Per Bro, George Wallis
  • Patent number: 4200684
Abstract: A method for cooling high rate discharge primary batteries comprising absorbing the heat of reaction of the primary battery by a nonaqueous liquid depolarizer, circulating it, cooling it, and returning it to the primary battery, and a primary battery system including one or more primary batteries, a cooling means, and a fluid communication means between the primary battery and the cooling means.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 24, 1978
Date of Patent: April 29, 1980
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co. Inc.
    Inventor: Per Bro
  • Patent number: 4188460
Abstract: An internal battery fuse comprising a portion of a current collector which is thermally shielded whereby excessive built-up heat resulting from a short circuit is concentrated in said portion and which heat fuses the shielded portion and interrupts the circuit prior to excessive internal pressure conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 1, 1978
Date of Patent: February 12, 1980
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co., Inc.
Inventors: Hong Y. Kang, Per Bro
  • Patent number: 4184017
Abstract: An electrochemical cell containing a polyvalent film forming metal anode, a nucleophilic non-aqueous electrolyte solvent and a free radical forming carbon halide additive dissolved in said solvent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 24, 1979
Date of Patent: January 15, 1980
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co. Inc.
Inventors: G. Stephen Kelsey, Arabinda N. Dey, Per Bro
  • Patent number: 4092464
Abstract: A high energy density cell or battery capable of undergoing flexular stress with little effect on its discharge properties either during and after subjection to stress.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 19, 1976
Date of Patent: May 30, 1978
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co. Inc.
Inventors: Arabinda N. Dey, Per Bro
  • Patent number: 4048404
Abstract: A fast chargeable and rechargeable energy storage system to serve as an electrical power supply, that can be fully charged or recharged in less than a minute, consisting of an electric cell with two polar electrodes, as to anode and cathode, with an electrolyte between them, in which the anode and the electrolyte are essentially non-gassing, and the operation during charge is a coupling of a chemical process with an electrochemical process. Circuit voltage is open 0.75 volt and energy storage capacity about 37.5 milliwatt hours in presently available units of small size.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 1976
Date of Patent: September 13, 1977
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co. Inc.
    Inventor: Per Bro
  • Patent number: 3990918
Abstract: An electric cell with a plastic seal prone to cold-flow from pressure areas, combined with an elastomeric prone to corrosive action from organic electrolyte, so the plastic will protect the elastomeric, while the elastomeric will compensate for the cold-flow.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 1975
Date of Patent: November 9, 1976
    Assignee: P. R. Mallory & Co., Inc.
